Today in Portland. Not going anywhere. Ice has no competition. It will always win if you go for a drive.

As someone who lives in moderate climates do you mean the 4Runner will break or icy roads are super dangerous? I was nervous to open my door today in 25 degree weather due to mild ice on it because we never get that.

Well that was earlier today. Just went out and grabbed these pics a few minutes ago.

The ice will always win. No 4x4 can handle the ice unless you have real studs.

I drove down Bull Mountain, grabbed a workout, shot over to Safeway and then back up Bull Mountain. Zero issues...

I grew up near Boston... this is nothing.

Cool photos OP, mine are much milder, we don't normally get ice or snow here in Memphis.

I grew up in Central Wisconsin and the ice and snow are considered the norm for this time of year, but when winter comes around these parts and ice and slippery road conditions are present even the locals that grew up here like I did seem to 'forget' how to drive according to road conditions. Driving over the road semi for many years I've seen icy/slippery roads in most of the places listed above, and as I recall around Atlanta was the worst I've witnessed. Most of the 'temperate' southern climates have NO clue what a plow truck is, much less having one available. So, I've been retired from driving semi for quite some time, but wholehearted agree with when even walking on slippery stuff...."walk like a Penguin", and when driving on it.... "Drive like an old grandpa!" Let's be safe out there!... exercise a little common sense, that seems to work for most!

The young bucks in their 4 wheel drives can proceed better than the 2 wheel drives, but a 4WD stops just as poorly as a 2WD on snow and ice!

When ice is that thick, you don't go out. Bridges and overpasses would be absolutely horrible even if treated. Look what happened in Texas with just a little ice.

Not worth risking getting hurt or piling up your truck. That’s when it’s good to stay home and drink some beer

And the reason there are old grandpas is because they quickly learned how to drive in those conditions. Or stay home and have a drink! :)

I’m nearby in Beaverton, OR. Lots of ice and sleet Thursday night but needed to make it to an appointment Friday morning. Brought our new 4Runner home Jan. 1st and still have stock tires so we took my wife’s CRV with new snow tires. It did great. With ice, it’s all about the tires (and managing your momentum)!

One trick you learn in snow country is to raise your windshield wipers before a snow or ice storm. Assuming you get a warning. Then in the morning it’s easier to brush and scrape your windshield, without first having to break frozen wiper blades off the glass.

Huh. Icy roads are dangerous. I lost 4wd yesterday and I found myself fishtailing all over the place (at least I knew how to control it), so ice is dangerous. If you lose 4wd put sand bags in the back to weigh the back of the vehicle down.

Hands down I've owned a ton of RC but the SCX24 size is amazing. I bought 2, and my 6yo son and I set up obstacle courses on the couches, beds, stairs...EVERYONE. Amazon boxes are now obstacles courses. Everything is an obstacle, and it's so much fun playing with another person.

I saw that one, it's the Mini-Z right? I mean it's a freaking 4Runner, I think the wife even wants that one.

We're in Happy Valley (OR). 4Runner has done fantastic with Cooper AT3 4S' but ice is still the great equalizer.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
My shared private mile long gravel road was a solid sheet of ice up until yesterday. My nearest neighbor who lives on a steep hill called me and asked if I could give him a ride into town to go grocery shopping 2 days ago. He was worried about rolling his truck going down that hill. He road his ATV down to my house and I drove him into town. I needed to pickup my mail at the post office anyway.

I told him I'd drop him off at the Grocery store and then go hang out at the hardware store till he called me. The hardware store also sells guns. As I was hanging out at the front by the guns, the owner asked me... How's your neighbor on the hill doing? Is he trapped up there?

Told them I just dropped him off at the grocery store. They laughed. The hardware store owner used to own the land my house and my neighbor's house is on plus an additional 300 acres around us.

The 4Runner did just fine on the ice. 2wd going down hill and 4wd going up hill. No issues at all. Didn't take any pics but I swear I could've ice skated the whole mile down to the state highway.

great pics....in fact, we are having similar icy conditions in Memphis....lots of sleet and ice...Memphis has little or no snow removal equipment...and It took me close to 15 minutes, to unfreeze my doors, etc..using buckets of warm water...to get inside, fire up the 4runner..and warm her up...I'll try and post some pics later
