I know there are a few threads on this but unsure how many pertain to the '21 exhaust. I don't know how different this year may be compared to previous years...I can tell you this, my family of 5 hates the sound...from slight acceleration to cruise control, it's awful.

After hearing my kids and wife complain this weekend, it's coming off or the truck goes...I gave it nearly 2,000 miles and I have to say that I'm shocked at how bad it is. It's not even a nice deep sound...it's simply annoying.

Anyway, you can consider this a rant thread or foreshadowing to an exhaust system being sold soon...but Toyota screwed the pooch on this particular "feature" of the PRO.

unsure...we have a couple of custom shops near me that could put something together...or, I may have the dealership install a new stock from another trim model. I've read on the Magnaflow and Borla systems but am fearful I'll end up with something similar.

You want quiet. Stick with an OEM standard exhaust. You can find plenty for sale that are used or someone will trade you your TRD exhaust for their standard.

Another 2021 TRDP owner here. I've got about 700 miles on mine so far, about half of those on two interstate trips to the mountains. The exhaust sound is definitely noticeable at first, but I'm finding I don't mind it and notice it less and less. I purposefully haven't mentioned to my wife or kids that there's anything out of the ordinary about it. I wanted to see if they'd comment on it independently. So far no one has seemed to notice anything, except yesterday one of my kids thought the roar on startup (while standing outside the vehicle) sounded impressive.

Everyone has different reactions and preferences. To each his own. The TRD Pro exhaust sounds like it's on the louder side, at least for a "stock exhaust." Some will love and some will hate.

Yep, definitely. The sound is certainly present enough that if it rubbed you the wrong way I could understand wanting to change it out.

Another "nuclear" option - if you have any custom exhaust shops near you, have them cut off the TRD muffler and install a 24" long muffler. I haven't measured the TRD one, but it looks like it's 16". I had a shop near me put a 16" Magnaflow and it was unbearable to me. They put on a 24" and it's just right. But, if you want quiet and no exhaust drone at all, you may have no choice but a swap for stock.

I traded my TRD exhaust for the stock one and it was the best mod I've ever made to the 4R.

Just my opinion, I don't think your wife and kids will love anything besides OEM. Just go back OEM.

Haha, maybe I’m due for a surprise after all! Oddly, I just got back from my first ride in it as a passenger, with my son driving. I could barely hear any exhaust sound from the passenger seat in a short ride across town. He may have a lighter foot than mine, but that was unexpected.

Agree 100%. I hate the TRD Pro exhaust (2021 model) as well. It's a frigging annoying droning sound. It just hasn't bubbled to the top of my priorities yet. At some point I'll get annoyed enough to swap it to a standard stock exhaust with someone with similar mileage ...

If I were you guys I'd be looking for at least $300-400 on top of someone's stock exhaust in a trade. There are plenty of folks who would love to have the TRD Pro exhaust.. and that thing ain't cheap. Exhaust is usually the first mod I do on a vehicle, but yeah.. my 4Runner is more like a tool to me and since it's a "long distance" vehicle, exhaust sound becomes more of an annoyance than a pleasure. There are plenty of mall-crawler 4Runners out there though that don't leave their zip code, for sure!

Oh that wasn't in reply to you. Besides, I just shipped an exhaust from AL to the PNW about 6 months ago... $275 UPS.

Do it!! You will be so much happier. I traded mine straight up with 11K miles for one with around 3K. Asking for money on top was not worth it to me.

I will at some point. As I said, it's all a bit weird to meet up with people these days, so it isn't a high priority. But I will do it.

Hi everyone, first time poster and fresh owner of a 2021 TRD Pro. I also don't care for the Pro exhaust, but I can see the point in keeping it in case I change my mind or have to sell the 4Runner. So I'd like to order the parts required to go OEM. So does anyone know what parts need to be replaced with stock ones, and which still work? Is it just a case of replacing the tailpipe and muffler (parts #11 and #16 in the attached drawing)? Thanks for any help.4Runner exhaust.jpg
