So I'm looking for a front hood protector. I have a white 2018 SR5 and really like the black contrast that the hood protector/wind deflector provides. What brand of wind protector do you guys have and which do you recommend?

I like the idea of the low profile one that WeatherTech makes. Anybody have one of those?

    Thanks!

PS: I have blacked out the emblems and roof rails since I've taken this photo

I just got the AVS mid profile one. It doesn't contact the paint anywhere (except underneath the hood). It's actually really low profile. I can hardly see it from inside the cab. Don't think it's more than about 1" off the hood on top. Just enough room to get a wax applicator underneath it. I'll post pics later.

Do you think that it helps with rock chips on the windshield?

Nope, doesn’t do shit for rock chips on the windshield. My windshield is hammered. It DOES protect the leading edge of the hood, though.

I have the 3m film for that. I did see a Jay Leno garage episode where he took his GT 40 and had a film placed on the windshield. That could help but I bet it’s not cheap.

Probably ok for high end cars that don’t get used much. Not sure how that would hold up to Minnesota winters and running an ice scraper over it.

That’s actually not the low profile one. But it’s still pretty low imo.

Bought the AVS one off of Amazon and it MAY have reduced bugs on the windshield. I don't know. But it's good quality and protects the hood, so...

I read it does nothing however I am still contemplating getting one. 2 weeks old and I already got a small windshield chip. I am also considering just getting the expel clear bra and just call it a day.

Does anyone have the AVS Aeroskin hood protector installed on the 4runner? Any info?

Uses two sided tape to adhere to the hood. I just used a mild alcohol wipe. the hood protector stays on no issues.
Just clean prior to installing and DO NOT use the provided prep wipe. I had read on another thread to not use so I tried a little spot under the hood. Don't know what is on that prep wipe but it eats the paint.

It's an alcohol wipe and if it eats your paint you need to be worried because its made to clean the paint for the tape to adhere to. Does not affect normal automotive paint I've used it many times over the years

The alcohol wipe is fine no issues. I prep and paint aircraft parts all the time. Have used alcohol, MEK and various thinners with no issues.
There is another prep wipe in the kit. Some kind of florescent solution.
