    Hi All,

Happy to join the forums! New owner of a 4WD 2021 Trail Special Edition in Army Green. I liked the Army Green TRD Pro from last year, but could not justify the out-the-door price or the additional off-road features, and then the 2021 Trail Special Edition popped up. Got a great deal too.

My first SUV, and I am very happy with it! Love the color and the dark gray wheels. Just need to replace those Dunlop AT20 Grandtrek tires with something else...I do highway most of the time right now, but am looking to hit the trails from time-to-time as well.

Thanks! I know there are many recommendations for the tires here, and there is no straight answer. I am looking to do mostly paved roads during the week, and some light off-roading on weekend trips. I narrowed it down to:
    - Michelin Defenders (durable, but not sure if it is worth changing out for these, they last a while but are not aggressive)
    - Falken Wildpeak AT3 (appear to be the most capable, but saw multiple balance/vibration issues from various forums)
    - Toyo AT3 (Toyo AT2 appear to have a good record, and take longer to wear out, but AT3 haven't been out for long enough yet)

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks again.

I've had no issues of any kind with my stock sized Wildpeaks. What's your tire source going to be?

    Welcome, nice truck!

sweet rig! I'm curious to see tire recs as well. I still have the stock Dunlops on mine. fine around town, but this thing is work to drive on the interstate, and noisey too. Love the vehicle overall

Thank you! I don't know, actually...I never put much thought into good tires previously, I most recently drove a Corolla. I was going to see if I can do a dealership discount, they sometimes have a free tire with a purchase of 3. I know Costco does tire installations if I get them (their options are limited for the 4Runner at least), and my source would be something like Town Fair Tire.

Welcome from Phoenix Arizona. I couldn’t see where your profile says you are located. I would say tires depend on environments that you will see most of the time. I bought the toyo AT3 for mine as they work well for the environment here, they have positive reviews, and I liked the looks. I haven’t had a single issue yet and they do well off-roading.

I had bfg’s (don’t remember the type but they were A/T tires) on my Tundra and they were a pain with balance. I had to get one of the tires replaced within 10k miles because my local tire shop couldn’t even balance the tire (didn’t even do off-roading with it).

Congrats again!!! Enjoy the adventures ahead of you!

Sweet! Any recommendations for some light trails in NH? I am in MA. After I replace the Dunlops, of course...

Thank you! I am in MA, and was also considering Toyo AT3. Most of the time would be backroads and highway, occasionally some unpaved. I am looking to do some lighter trails on occasion. Main concern is wet / snow traction. Did you source them somewhere yourself, and had a trusted shop install?

Not that I’m aware of at least up this way. Most of the trails are now either ATV or snowmobile trails maintained by clubs through private land. You’d have to look up some off road clubs to see where they meet for some rides. Check out Southern Vermont Off Road Association- they do some cool rides down that way.
