Anyone know how to reset the fuel mileage info on the control panel?

I recently replaced bulbs in the climate control panel and had to disconnect the main connector. Now I find that the fuel mileage information is incorrect when it resets after filling up. It used to read around 440mpg or so now it only reads 360mpg. Any ideas would be appreciated.

 

Thing never reads accurately, but just hold down the reset button on each view and reset them all back to 0

 

I think he's talking about the range. At least I hope so... What 4runner can get 440 mpg? Anyway, if it's the range. That thing changes with every fill up. Soon enough it'll go back to normal.

 

Yeah, but generally when you reset everything it helps reset the range reading as well. Mine used to read 380 after a full tank, think it's down to 320 now after all the mods, haha.

 

Gotcha. I haven't bothered with it for awhile now. My range won't even read anything above 300 now. I think my last fill up was something like 270.

 

How do you take the climate control panel apart to replace the bulbs? I have a 2005 SR5 4 runr

First open the compartment below climate control and lift out the compartment, it should pop out.

There are two screws holding the climate control panel just under it, remove those and pull out gently, it should pop out.

Remove the connector, there are two different bulbs that are used and you'll need a really good pocket screwdriver to twist and remove them.

Yep, it's all relative to your driving habits but at the same time it uses your average mpg and average speed over time to calculate the range. I think mine reads like 16.3 mpg @ 30mph average speed and the range on my tank showed 340 the other day. If I reset them both back to 0, it jumps up to 380 on the range until I've gotten a week of driving out of it then it's back down.

 

Ya this part of the info available to the driver is retarded with the exception of the Mileage indicator. I fill up the tank and know how many miles I can drive-OK. Then it indicates my Average Speed is like 14 MPH??? Even after resetting it a bunch of times "Useless and Inaccurate" info. MPG...I guess works OK.

 

I amuse myself with the readout by filling up in the CO high country and coasting downhill getting 99.9mpg's. From then on the mpg's read high for a long time. A good way to show my wife that I get good mileage.

 

After I put the 255s on, my mpg is actually pretty close to my hand calculations. Stock it's never been close. I only pay attention to the range because right before it hits 0 my gas light comes on and I usually have about 2.5-3 gals left.
