I replaced mine with the Borla S at 1400 miles. I didn’t really like the sound of the TRD. For me, the Borla has less of a drone.

I just did the TRD Pro Exhaust upgrade yesterday. First drive today and I love it. Not to loud and seems to give a little low end boost paired with the TRD CAI. Only thing I noticed was a ton of smoke blow past me at a stop light. I’m assuming it’s all the oil and stuff from the manufacturing and WD40 I had to use to get the old bolts off.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Yeah, it's probably just the oil and WD40. Mine barely even has the smell anymore. I'm lucky. I never saw the smoke.

I don't have the TRD CAI, but I still seem to have a bit of low end boost with the TRD exhaust. It's not spectacular, but it helps.

Just curious on the OEM TRD Exhaust; how does everyone feel about the ceramic black exhaust tip? Is it clamp on pipe install or does it come welded on?

I have been looking for the same thing & the only answer I get is "buy the exhaust". I just want the black tip on our all black 4runner! No noise needed.
    Good luck!

TRD tip is welded. word of caution for those in snow belt and road salt/chemicals. I kept mine spotless even had it ceramic coated. couple weeks into winter driving last year the finish was shot

If you don’t like your TRD exhaust, I’m willing to trade a stock exhaust. Seattle area only though.

My exhaust tip came welded on.

I heard that the finish goes to crap after a winter of the elements. Oh well. I wasn't exactly planning on using it as a showpiece anyway.

Finally swapped out the TRD exhaust with the factory exhaust. For me, factory is so much better!!!
I do miss the exhaust note upon startup, but definitely do not miss anything else.
I also do not notice any reduction in power, even at low end. If anything, I'm able to better feel the power since I'm no longer equating exhaust note to power.
And best of all, all of my passengers are now happy, so I get to drive it more!

A note to help potential buyers: Being a car guy I was very interested in this OEM+ mod until I actually lived with my truck for a few months. Now I have zero interest because IMO this truck with stock exhaust already drones a lot. Around town is one thing but if you actually go into the mountains, or even hills, and start driving up long graded inclines, it quickly becomes apparent how loud even the stock exhaust is when the motor is constantly loaded. Just something to keep in mind. I can only imagine how loud and droney any sort of aftermarket exhaust would be. I 100% honestly wish there was a way to make the drone quieter even on the stock setup.

Has anyone with KDSS installed the TRD exhaust? I don't think it should be a problem, but just want to make sure.

I have this setup. Did the install myself in my driveway using jack stands. No issues at all with KDSS. Good luck with yours!

Good to know and thanks for sharing with us. I own a 2016 4RTP w/KDSS myself and wonder if there was any issues.
So was it worth it? … seeing a lot mixed reviews, comments on the forum …

It’s loud at first, especially pass 2500 rpm, but not obnoxious (to me). I also have the TRD intake. Exhaust do drones a bit on freeway inclines. I don’t mind it and have gotten used to after 1000 or so miles.
I wasn’t expecting noticeable performance gain. So no regrets with the mod, and I think the side exhaust tip looks kind of cool.

It’s not only frigging annoying, it’s also a stupid design for off road. Can’t understand why they’d put that on a TRD.

So many mixed views that I’ve decided just to visit my local custom exhaust shop; have them replace muffler and dual it out to the rear sides with black 3 1/2” Dia. Ceramic Rolled Over Tips… probably cost less than this OEM TRD Exhaust!

Probably a good idea, you can avoid a mistake the Toyota engineers made and at the same time avoid the frigging drone this thing has at highway speeds.

With the TRD Pro exhaust, if you go off road or might be in deep snow or anything that can push sand/mud/snow against the rear mudflap, the flap can be pressed against the exhaust and starts melting.

    It's plain a stupid design.

So for anyone that has done the swap. Everything bolts up same place. Or does the tail pipe need to be modified since the TRD comes out the side and the non oem comes straight out the back.

Does the rear section mount the same? I'm buying the OEM muffler but the wife wants to keep side exit tail, it looks similar on the computer.
