Looking for tire size recommendations

Somebody know the biggest ( BF Good-ridge) tire size fix on a TRD Off-road 5th gen with out modifications?

But I’m between 265 and 275. Not sure I will get now .

 

275 KO2's are only available in E load, if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't go load E unless you are looking to off-road a good amount. 265's are available in C which are a bit lighter. Oddly, 285's are available in C as well, but won't fit without a little work.

 

Good to know, very useful information. So what you recommend to do to be able to install 285.

 

Lift, alignment, mud-flap removal or adjustment, fender liner modification, body mount chop, or some combination of these things.

 

Just put stock size KO2's 265/70/17 on. Vast improvement over the Bridgestone HT's.
Was considering the 275's but not in stock.

 

It’s funny you mention that. I run 255/80/17 (33x10.5) Ridge Grapplers, they are 33.3” tall and the only thing I’ve have todo is add caster and push the front of the fender liners forward to fit them. 34x10.5x17 K02s are only 33.5” I would need to clear an extra 1/10th of an inch to run “34s”

On paper it’s feasible that with an alignment, mud flap removal, and fender line mod, you might fit BFG’s undersized 34s.

 

When I first got my 4Runner I went with 275 K02s. They were exactly the same height as the stock tires, just a little bit wider.

 

I'm actually looking at 285/75/17 Yokohamas, though. They're spec'ed at 34.1", I think. I have BMC and UCA's so I should be fine. I might need to "massage" the pinch welds also. I might just do 285/70's though, because I am not going to regear.... For now.

 

Geolander MT?

 

Yes. If I do MT's, they're on the short list. Toyos are more expensive and weigh more. I've had good luck with Yokohama in the past.

 

Yeah that was my second choice, looks like a great tire and I’ve read good reviews. It has aggressive tread but doesn’t look like it would be a noisy tire.

 

What did you end up with? I still have plenty of time to decide, so I'll be doing research for the next 6 months.

 

I ended up doing the nitto ridge grapplers, great tires so far. I just didn’t know if I needed an MT tire, but after now doing more research they’re only 1lb apart in weight and shouldn’t wear down that much faster than an AT. I’ve read the tread is pretty stiff on them. I think I’m going with the geolander for my next set though, it really makes the 4runners pop and the sidewall seems to offer good traction when aired down.

 

I went through the same decision making process this spring, and went with the Toyo AT3 for similar reasons. Part if me wishes I had kept MY BFG's for winter, and gotten a second set of wheels with MT's. Now I'm looking at making the Toyos my winter tires and getting a set of MT's on a second set of wheels for summer, wheeling trips, and mall crawler shows.

 

This looks great - can't believe it's stock size. No lift? I'll def be doing this.

 

A lot of people talk smack about the BFG's, but THIS is why people continue to buy them, They're just a damn good looking tire. Even in the stock size they just look "big". I think it has to do with the square shoulder profile, and how pronounced the sidewall is.

Sure, Falkens may perform as well if not better for 75% of the cost, but they're just an odd looking tire (IMO).

As much of a cheapskate as I am, I'm probably going to go with BFG's mostly for the look (as well as they're one of the few tires available in a C rating in the stock size). I just can't convince myself that I like the look of the Wildpeaks.

I love the Yoko MT's discussed above too, but my mall crawler does not need MT's at all, haha.

 

Did my first winter run in some mild snow, and for what’s it’s worth, the nittos preform great. The tread seems to empty out the snow and I didn’t use 4wd once. But a MT tire sure would look better

 

I think those Nitto’s look pretty good on there.

 

Unless your comparing them to drag slicks there no scenario that the Nitro Ridge Grapplers “perform great” in the snow... and I love those tires.
