New Guy from St. Louis, MO

Hello ALL you 4Runners. I'm currently a 2010 FJ Cruiser owner that will soon be trading in on a 2021 4Runner. Going to be hard parting with the FJ even after 150,000 miles on her. Best vehicle I've ever owned. But if I want the same old reliable drive train, it looks like I'm going to have to act during 2021.
I've already posted a couple Threads on this Forum and received some very useful replies. Thanks !!
So, I need to decide if I want a 2021 TRD Off Road Premium or a TRD PRO. Hmmm. I will be needing a 4Runner for daily driving plus the "occasional" mild off-roading.
The cost for a TRD/OR Premium even with all the options I want (including a sunroof) is easily $6,000.00 less than the TRD/PRO. Plus, I would have to remove the roof rack from the PRO as it won't fit in my garage. LOL Plus, I think (?) the PRO sits about 1/2"-1" taller than the others even without the large roof rack (which I don't need anyway in my case). And the ORP has the ddirectional signals on the outside mirrors. (curious why the PRO does not ?).
So, maybe I'm answering my own questions, but which Model do you guys think would be the better choice in my case ? (It's that front grill on the PRO that keeps me looking at it LOL).

Also: Do all current 4Runners come "standard" with a Trailer Towing Package ? It was an option in 2010 on my FJ. And I don't see it offered as an option on any of the Models.

I went through all of this myself made my purchase yesterday which it does not matter. What matters is you need to go to your dealership and drive both to see for yourself - forget about the little things and focus on the drive. In my case, the drive helped me make that final decision which I’m extremely happy with

The grill on the Pro is cooler.
An ORP has KDSS. A Pro doesn’t.
A Pro has a different suspension in the front only.
A Pro has a bit of an unusable cargo rack.
An ORP needs to have its cargo rack replaced if you want to put anything serious up there.
Pros come in a unique colour.
A Pro has narrower wheels. 7.0 vs 7.5 on an ORP.
I’m sure others will chime in with some others.
For me the biggest difference is KDSS. Make sure you drive one at high speed on a windy road before you make up your mind.
They’re both great, you can’t go wrong with either choice!

 

Welcome from Wisconsin! I don't think the difference between the ORP and the PRO are worth the extra 5-6 grand they put on the MSRP. I think you've already made up your mind, let us know.... which way you go!

 

Thanks guys for your early replies. I know I'm just full of questions, but it's really helping me decide on which Model.
One more question: The TRD/ORP shows an option. Performance Exhaust. I'm wondering if this is worth getting ? Or is it a bit too loud and overkill for daily driving ? I assume it comes standard with the TRD/PRO since it's not shown as an option for that Model. Thanks again for the help. I'm getting much closer. LOL

Couldn't tell ya Rick, but someone on here has one, or heard one, or knows someone with that exhaust. If you go with the performance exhaust, shouldn't you get a little better intake too?

 

The PRO performance exhaust is loader and noticeable when driving but not load as you can’t hear yourself talk - that’s one thing I liked about the PRO but again nothing that you can’t install on the ORP

 

I wouldn’t call the 4 litre engine in the 4 Runner a high performance engine, maybe a bullet proof engine, but seriously not high performance lol. Spending money on a high performance exhaust system that makes more noise is truly laughable, imho. You’ll know what I mean once you drive one for a while. As for noise, live and let live, all the harleys and guys in old beater cars make enough noise, lol. When I’m off road the quieter rigs get to see more wildlife.

 

I would not get the Pro just for the grill and exhaust. I could live without the exhaust on mine. It’s ok but nothing special. I myself like the softness of the suspension on my Pro while some do not. I’ve hit pot holes, bumps etc and it doesn’t even flinch and you don’t even feel it. Now I haven’t done major off roading yet in mine just mild and the suspension was nice. I don’t plan on going crazy off road in mine. Just light trails and the farm. As many mentioned I would drive both. The grill is an easy fix if you want that Heritage grill on the ORP. I think you won’t regret either to be honest. As someone mentioned above do you want the special color of the Pro? That will help with the decision too I think. Let us know what you decide.

 

This is a great summary of both options.

 

Also something to consider is wheel/tires. I feel most always want to upgrade or change one or both. Would you be happy with the wheels and nitto terra grappler tires or would you want to change them? The tires are ok but not ko2, AT 3 or ridge grappler in my opinion.

Thank you ALL for the welcome. And, all the great replies !! Most helpful. So, I'm heavily leaning towards the TRD-ORP. Seems to make more sense in my case. I added up the List price for the ORP with all the options/accessories I wanted, including sun roof, TRD wheels and skid plate, etc., etc. and it's still $5,745.00 LESS than the PRO. That's easily enough to cover the sales tax and a set of upgrade A/T tires. And since I don't need a roof rack - and it won't fit in the garage anyway, I won't have to remove it.
