Their stuff is stout. Like a couple things about theirs in particular:
    * Engine skid has access hatch for filter and opening for oil pan drain plug. Don't have to drop skid to change oil (Really Toyota?).
    * Engine skid already has drop engineered in so didn't have to use drop spacers because of diff drop.
    * Gas tank skid can support weight of entire vehicle. I think it's 60lbs. (disregard greasy look of picture, live in rustbelt and
apply Fluid Film liberally couple times a season, application was yesterday
    ).
    * Supply new grade 8 hardware for every fastener.

If you go RCI, Tim in sales was helpful as they come. We picked up from the factory as we were coming through town (saved $$$ vs. shipping to Iowa). Changed pickup by a couple days earlier than scheduled. Busted their hump to get our gas tank skid powder coated in time for pickup.

Don't disagree or see how folks drive modified Wranglers as daily, but lots do. Mine is third vehicle/dedicated toy.

I'm sure we'll find some compromises in Ouray/Arizona/Moab (Moab pictured), but so far the comfort and unexpected ability far outweighs any shortfalls. These things are a whole lot bigger than a 2 door Wrangler.

    Nothing yet.
I love these comments. I have only owned mine for 12 hours and she has already been down a heavily rutted dirt two-track, mudhole, and a fun little hill with some technical obstacles. Pissed my wife off lol. Then to the car wash.

I won't be doing any rock crawling, but yeah, it will be off-road quite a bit (the reason we went with the 4r be Grand Cherokee).

Bought mine for snow conditions this year, as we just moved my eldest to Oregon and Covid has ended high school sports for my Senior, I’ll be spending more time at Tahoe. Hopefully next year I can join my brother on his camping/fishing trips with his young son.

The truck is still mirror clean. You wiped mud on the tires. Don't lie!
Seriously, I wish we had anywhere close to go. Even if they were service roads.

Same here - Virginia does not offer any decent off road trails. I just got back from a 10 hour round trip from Uwharrie in SC. Totally worth it . Will post pics and video later. Sure had a blast though. Got to know the rig a lot better. Verified that 4runner’s capability far exceeds my bravery and expectation and was blown away by what a-trac and crawl control can do. Crawl control found traction when 4lo and I couldn’t. Seriously... - what a beast!

Not really. Most of the difficult roads around here are gated off. That's why I sold my Jeep and bought a 50" UTV; to get around the gates and explore the wilderness. The 4Runner is for towing the UTV to the trail head. Still, it's been on a few logging roads.

Mainly though, it is a tow vehicle when heading to the woods...

Do neglected, heavily-rutted USFS roads count? If so, yes! Otherwise, 98% of the time, I’m cruising in 2WD lol

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
I took mine offroad yesterday! I went wheeling for about an hour. I saw something funny, too. I was coming out of one trail before going down another trail, and as I was leaving, a pristine white Jeep started entering. I want to say it was a Renegade, but I think it might have been a model that was a little older. Something that had round headlights that wasn't a Wrangler. Maybe a Commander?. Definitely not a Wrangler. Anyway, I went down another trail then came back up, and then I pulled over to the side of the main (for the area) road to set my GPS to go home, and I saw that same pristine white Jeep again as I was exiting. My 4Runner got so filthy, but that Jeep didn't get a speck of dust on it. I wonder why... :D 4Runner for the win!

I found a hole. Thankfully the kickout on the sliders saved me. I don't know how I didn't take more damage than that. Well, first scratches on the 2020 weren't pinstripes like I suspected, but trail rash...I'd love to pretend I was a badass and didn't care about it, but I was pissed because I thought I broadsided the entire passenger section. Very luck it was just sliders, wheels, and some plastic bumper. I couldn't see daylight between the fender and the wall, but somehow, it wasn't scratched.

That's nothing Fajitas. Check out this gnarly dirt road I just had to traverse. Tractor ruts!

Seriously, your pic is scary. I'd have expected the whole side to be dented in. That slider must have saved you! Way to go!

Did you go high side and slide down? Would you set the scene/sequence of events please. Can't figure how the front got through and the rear ended up biting you. Glad not worse than it was.

Nope, figured it wasn't as deep as it was, went straight in like a dope. Just poor judgement. Been wheeling for years, still make dumb choices occasionally. I got the dashcam video, let me find it.

One of the reasons I don't like offroad parks (I was just complaining about this, maybe even earlier in this very thread), is that people with 40" tires go rutting up the place. This was a Level 1 access road someone hogged out by spinning tires and digging it up when it was probably muddy.

Just got back from Moab.... I only did the "easy" stuff. Was AMAZED at how the 4Runner handled everything with ease. The truck 'never broke a sweat' handling the ascents and descents, I did. No rock crawling, and I had to wash 3 times when I got home....

The stock tires look boring but they surprised me. It's why I didn't get to upgrade them right off the bat on my 2016 4Runner. I told the wife if we had trouble we'd upgrade the parts that didn't hold up, and they kept working well. It was pretty annoying.

Sure do! Every week to the quarry for shootin'. All of 780' from the road. Hey, it's tricky, 'specially in winter, with snow a foot deep. HAH!

    IMG_1067b.jpg

I do have to go for a half mile of gravel and talcum powder road, which turns to shit in winter, to get to pavement whenever I go out. That's why it looks like I go off road. HEH!
