New to this... a question

So i’m new to the whole modding game and have a few questions. I have a 2016 SR5 and I’m looking at getting a 3” lift in the front and 1.5” rear. With this would I be able to clear 285/70/R17 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W? The reason im asking is because i’ve seen a few people say that they are bigger than usual because of the tread. Would it be smarter to go with the 265/70/R17 stock size for this? I just don’t want it to look silly with a lift of that size. I’m fine if I have to do minor trimming but nothing major. And if I wanted Method MR309 Grid wheels would that work with those as well?

 

If you’re doing 285’s be ready to have to do a body mount chop, especially with aftermarket wheels that have negative or even 0 offset. Also, 3/1.5 will look goofy because you’ll be nose high which will be worse with any weight you put in the rear. Spend some time researching lifts and wheels, it’ll help you narrow down what lift and tire size will fit your needs the best.

As @Mtbpsych mentioned, you'll probably have to do a BMC to fit 285's.

It might look level, until it's loaded. I'm at 2.3/1.5 and still have some rake.



I went with heavy rear springs to avoid Carolina squat when loaded.

 

Okay. What exactly does wheel offset do I still can’t process it in my mind. The wheels i’m looking at are +.04 mm so isn’t that basically 0. What’s the big deal with it

 

A +4 offset puts the center of the wheel and tire 4mm closer to the vehicle. Negative pushes the wheels outward. +4 is probably a good place to be, as it's closer to the OEM wheels than some other aftermarket heels. I have 285's at -7 offset, and rub occasionally while backing up and turning. I have 2.3" lift in front, and a body mount chop.
