I recently replaced my 2005 4Runner SR5 with a 2019 SR5. While I would have liked a SR5 Premium or TRD Pro, inventory is incredibly scarce during these strange times. At any rate, I got a great deal, but still would have liked side mirror turn indicators and puddle lamps. Unfortunately, these are not available on the base SR5 or TRD Off Road.

Visiting eBay, I found these: Set of Side Power Mirrors Heated Signal Puddle Lamp

They claim 2014-2016 fit, but I suspect they also fit 2017-2020. (?)

Aside from reusing my existing painted mirror shells, will these plug into a connection somewhere inside the door? Any experienced advice is appreciated.

sure look like they would. You would just need to add power to the puddle. Just tap off door vanity light.

Do you have experience with this swap, or are you guessing?

I’ve worked on our mirrors and it’s only 3 nuts and that plug (9 wires). From the description and pics provided, it looks like it would work.

only issue is if your truck didn’t come with puddle lights, adding mirrors with puddle lights won’t work as the power is missing. Just add the power.

just some advice, you don’t need to believe me :)

Thank you. I want to go in with as much experience as possible, especially if I'm splicing into power somewhere. Keep in mind that the SR5 lacks both turn-signal AND puddle lamps, which is why I want to swap these mirrors.

Adding turn signal power may be a bit more difficult, but it’s doable. the kick panel should have all the power wires (dome, turns signals, lock/unlock detect). You’ll just need a meter to figure out which pin is which.

i would verify in my truck but I have a limited. So I already have all those power features you may need. I would need access to a truck without them to help you find it.

I will need to research and find the OEM wiring harness that accepts these mirrors. That might give me some clues on the wiring, as well as the parts I'll need to order.

If you look at your current mirrors and harness, you’ll have the same plug (11 pin plug). But what’s important is how many wires are populated. I’m guessing 7, since your mirrors don’t have puddles and turn signals.

    802A80E0-A791-4DAE-A619-3B1E91E27E47.jpg

my mirror has puddles and turn signals and has 9 wires populated in my 11pin plug.

if you take a part your mirror, perhaps you can take a picture of the connector and see which wires are present. From there I can compare them to mine.

from there, I can trace it back to hear (pictured). I believe this plugs into a universal harness which has puddle and turn signal. I can help find/compare.

Just my 2 cents, I don't see the appeal of puddle lamps. They really don't do a damn thing, even with LED's in there like mine.

Subbing because this is something I’ve been wanting to do and almost all threads relating to upgrading these mirrors involve trucks that already have the turn signals etc.

Yeah I want to verify the wires for turn signal and puddles for the trucks that didn’t have them from the factory.

i just need someone to help me out since my truck has them already :)

It seems that this is an old topic. So old, in fact, that somebody has made a harness adapter for this very purpose... but not before the forum admins created drama. There's lots of info here, and I've already messaged Old Red for details:

If I can do so, soon, I will. I'm incredibly busy this weekend, but perhaps next weekend will allow me the time to get into the door.

Yes I remember his thread. The fact that a harness was made leads me to believe we can simply tap off those wires.

That would be great. It would help a bunch of folks who someday can have sequential turns signals, mirrors and puddles.

I found the Oldred thread a while ago while looking into this but it seems to have devolved into drama and bitterness over his non vendor status, and ultimately I figured it would be best to figure it out myself.

I have some pictures of the mirror connector that terminates inside the door.

I think it also depends on if you have turn signals and puddles already, that will determine the number of wires in that harness. I can check mine later. But I think I had at least 9 wires.

so does your truck already have mirror turn signals indicators and puddles?

Because your harness/plug looks differ then mine. Perhaps because I have turn signal indicators and puddles.

So i traced the turn signals and puddles from the mirrors, harness down to the kick panels.

I believe/hope the connectors in the kick panels are the same regardless you have sr5/premium/trd/limited.

I’m hoping someone who does not have turn signal mirror indicators and puddles can verify.

so these are the 22pin connectors which are located in the kick panels.

    drivers side
Yellow - turn signal (bottom left)
White - puddle signal (2nd from bottom left)

    passenger side
Yellow - turn signal (bottom right)
White - puddle signal (5th from bottom left)

No it doesn’t. Definitely the harness in the door is different depending on whether your truck came with them or not. Your mirror connector is entirely different. I was hoping they would have the same connectors at least, just less or more populated.

I’m wagering the connector in the kick panel is the same, just not the wires and connectors throughout the harness in the door.

I may get a chance to look in the kick panel later today.

I had to tap those for my power folding mirrors (power, lock detect and unlock detect)

that would be great. Just need a confirmation that the 22pin connector exists on each side and is fully populated. If it does, then there’s a good likely hood that the mirror indicators and puddles are active.

If they are active, then folks without mirror indicators and puddles can tap those wires for that purpose.

Yes please make a piggy back harness for the 22pin plug once they signals are verified.

I have a 2010 Trail which only has power & heated mirrors and I'm trying to retrofit 2012 limited door mirrors with TS & puddle lights. I believe I have the 5 pin connector on the door harness (and the old mirror) and the replacement mirror has the 11 pin connector. Not sure if these help, but I've attached a schematic and a pin out that I found when researching this.

    Do these help?

Looks like someone was already in here splicing something. I have no idea (yet) what these wires are.
