2019 TRD Pro Fox Suspension and spacer lift?

    Yeah I agree DallasTrdPro, My mechanic that’s does most of my work on my vehicles I have been with him for a lot of years. He doing the install and he recommends doing the springs over the spacers. I even checked with Toyota dealer I use to deal with years ago close to where I work at they have a mechanic that does all there lifts on there brand new tacomas or 4runners and he told me between the springs and the westcott he would stay with the springs. I checked there because I did not know if my local mechanic could do it because of health issues. But he said he fine to do it so I rather give him the business. My whole concern is I only want to do this once and hoping the springs give enough to run 285’s without doing any cutting. I checked with Toytec Pro spacer lift yesterday and there lift is almost like the westcott. This is why I’m second guessing myself to do the springs or spacer lift. The guy from Toytec said also which the Pro is already one inch higher and adding there spacer lift he said I would probably end up to being close to 3 inches in the front. He also asked which wheels I was running because and I told him and he said I should have less chance of rubbing with my 8.5 inch wheel over the Pro wheels. Sorry about the long post.     too many things that could go wrong during install and down the road with the Westcott vs Eibach springs. I’m going with the Eibach and then removing my wheel spacers. Same price. Eibach has been around for way longer than any other company.

    Yeah I know what you mean. That video I mentioned on the other forum about Baka his name on you tube on his Eibach spring install I did not think it was bad what he had to do for the 285’s to clear on his white Pro.

    Get the Eibach springs.

    The lift height won't be the determining factor on whether you rub or not.

    Whether you rub or not will depend on your wheel specs and alignment.

    My 1st alignment after the level was way off. Pulled hard to the right. Guy at Chitown off-road called people.over to look as the bolts were way outta position...they were laughing as never seen that before. Anyway next alignment from them is spot on. I had the same clearances stock, 1st and second alignment...dunno if it was dumb luck:notsure:

    Great job, DallasTRDPro, it’s such an art trying to get it right, and you succeeded! It looks great. It looks level to me, but if you look at wheel space, i.e. centre hub to fender edge, the rear has more than the front. That’s why you can’t use this measurement if you want level. You can measure the frame to the ground, or better yet put a masonry level on the frame or the rocker panels and see what it says. Maybe even the window line. Whatever method you use, your eye doesn’t lie. And in the end, it’s whether you like how it looks.

    Yeah its not perfectly level, but it is much better. The odd thing is it got rid of my hood bounce which my theory is the stock rake causes it based on wind flow.

    So I have not been able to get the answer I'm looking for after going through multiple threads. Can you use a 1.5" or 2" top spacer lift (sits on to of the strut) of the 2020 Fox TRD Pro Struts? I see that there are bottom spacers and ones that go on the top of the spring. But I want to know if anyone has had success with a top spacer? I'm looking at purchasing a set of the TRD Pro Fox Struts to put on my 2017 TRD ORP and use a spacer to get enough room for my 285/70/17 that I currently have on my 4runner. I know people do not recommend spacers. I just want to know if it can ben done and if so, what ones did you use.

    No you can’t and you shouldn’t on any shock regardless of Pro or otherwise. They ride very harsh and cause over compression issues which lead to catastrophic shock failure. A thin top spacer along with an internal spacer is the only safe method. PM, call, or text me any time 631-202-8245 I have multiple options for the pro. Everything from a 3/4” front leveling kit up to a 2.5” front 2” rear kit and everything in between.

    There's a lot of false information here and all over the internet surrounding the use of spacers. Generally, this false info is spread by people with zero experience with spacers and by people that don't understand the difference between spacer designs. With that said, attempting to compare a spacer to a complete shock and spring replacement is like comparing a Mercedes to a Fiat. They're so different they should never be compared to each other to begin with. In terms of different spacer design, there are the large bolt on top hat kits and there are internal kits. The large bolt on top hat kits do cause premature shock failure and the ride quality is very poor. This is unfortunately where all the bad publicity comes from. The internal kits or an internal kit coupled with a small top hat kit, no more than 1/2" thick, do not cause these issues and the ride quality is very close to factory. I've been turning a wrench for 20+ years, I've lifted more vehicles than I can count, and I am proud to be a dealer for Cornfed Suspension.     All you need to clear 285's is 0.5" of lift.

    The Fox Pro shocks will lift your truck roughly 1" higher than stock.

    You'll have adequate room for the 285's with the Fox shocks alone. No need for additional lift.

    You might have to cut, you might not. Depends on your wheel offset and alignment [we're taking about turning side to side (or wheel scrub) in this scenario].

    My point is that you don't need a bunch of lift to clear 285's (top to bottom travel). They are only 0.5" taller than 265's when measuring from the center of the wheel to the top of the tire. The 1" lift that the fox pro shocks provide is sufficient to clear 285s top to bottom. Now if you WANT more lift for looks, that's a different story.

    Thank you for your response. Question, what do you think would be the best option for the front of my Runner.

    Current set up:
    2017 TRD Off Road with stock strut and 2.5 or 3" top hat spacer. (Purchased it with the lift)

    New Set up:
    2017 TRD Off Road with 2020 TRD Pro Fox struts.

    I want to keep the same hight I currently have.
    Front Driver (middle of wheel to top of fender) =22.25
    Front Passenger (middle of wheel to top of fender) =22.5

    Not sure if its best to do a small top-hat with a 1.5 spacer up front? or just a 2"?

    Looking for the best off-road performance possible while adding a spacer.

    Going to keep the rear as is with its current spacer lift and TRD Pro fox rears.

    Add a 2” front kit to the Pro Suspension. That’ll provide roughly 2.75” lift considering the .75” lift the fox suspension provides over other models. That’ll keep you about where you currently are. Feel free to PM, call, or text me any time. 631-202-8245

    So here's a stupid question,

    It seems like the Fox Shocks that come with the 2021/2022 TRD Pro have a good reputation for Overlanding (moderate to hard trails but not extreme trails). Is this the correct assessment?

    Also, I was looking at the Wescott designs items. I have a friend that just got a 2022 TRD Pro with the Fox shocks. Will adding the following item allow for a little bit of lift with good off-road performance in your experience?

    He's dropped some massive coin to get the new rig, just trying to see if we can give him a little bit of a lift while also being able to get some reasonable reliable performance? This way he can focus on spending on some proper sliders and other stuff.

    @K-Paul I would reach out to Westcott directly they are super helpful. Their owner worked for Toyota for years and the machine all their parts here in the US. The pre-collar TRD PRO lift is intended to work with the Fox shocks and factory geometry. It will allow for bigger tires up to 285s, reduce rake and improve ride quality (less body roll and nose dive). It will not enhance off road capability but it will not negatively affect it other as the stock suspension is largely unaltered.

    So in short, it seems like indeed this kit is a great stop-gap while he gets more experience and decides on a different system down the line, i do appreciate the feedback!

    i dont know if he wants the 285's, but if he does go that route there is a shop in Albert Lea MN that does BMC's.

    @K-Paul with the Westcott he will not need to do any BMC to fit 285s. The other advantage of Westcott is he keeps the stock FoX tuned suspension and shouldn't need to worry about any warranty issues. I have a 2022 TRD PRO that Im installing the Westcott on as well.
