Hey there everyone, just bought my first 4Runner this weekend so could start getting into off-roading. Excited to start doing some mods. I'm interested in what everyone thinks should be the first mod to add?

I'm looking to do more Over-landing/camping type of thing, not heavy rock crawling.

    Welcome aboard!

If all you’re going to do is camp then a mild lift and better tires on the stock rims. Just beware that modding your rig becomes addictive and will easily snowball out of control... If you’re lucky! :D

I agree with BestGen, if camping and general adventuring in Arkansas is your goal then some 5100s or Eibach front shocks set at .85 and some new tires would be a great place to start. That will give you roughly a 1" lift in the front. Still some factory rake but looks really sharp with the factory size tire.

The "builds" sub-forum has been very helpful for me to visualize different combinations and looks. A lot of great information on this forum. Welcome!

Yeah i don't mind if it snowballs! Also I'm not looking to lift the truck that much, 1 because my garage is really short, and 2 because my wife needs to be able to use it every once and a while :).

Have any of you guys kept more street tires for driving around town and a set of off road tires too? Is it worth taking the time to swap wheels all the time?

I got new tires put on right after leaving the dealer last year.

Whereabouts are you in AR? I get down to Mountain Home, AR every couple weeks.

I have some land on Bull Shoals Lake, so I am up that direction off and on, looking forward to exploring some trails up that way now.

I live just west of Theodosia.

Found a kick ass trail off of Glade Top Trail where it meets Hwy 125 (north of Hwy 160).
    It's rocky but doable.

There is also a cemetery trail in the same area that is neat.

Let me know next time your up this way if you want to hit a couple of these trails.

Small world. We drove by this house a few month ago.

My thought was it would be nice to have a 2nd house where you can just walk out the door and go for a swim after cutting through the Army Corp land. Could rent it as a VRBO when not using it.

I have some M/Ts on steel rims for off-roading and used to have some nice smooth Michelins on aluminum wheels for DDing. It wasn’t a problem swapping back n forth. Especially since my sons were forced, I mean wanted, to do it for me. ;) But now they’re grown up and don’t have the time anymore so it’s M/Ts full time. It also helps that I don’t DD it now.
