Is the 14 to 19 Entune radio plug and play with 10 to 13?

I'm looking to add a minor stock upgrade to my 2013 4Runner with the base radio. I have seen a few random posts advising that the newer radio will work in any fifth gen, but I have found zero threads where someone has done it or any confirmation that the harness will plug into the newer radio.

If anyone has first hand experience or can send me information about the swap I would really appreciate it!

 

You probably better off aftermarket.

 

Man, I can tell you from first hand experience, Toyota has made 24 versions of these radios for the 4Runners. (At least for the 2020). I had a 2019 that I was going to take the plunge and upgrade it to the 2020 radio, but since mine was a "Pioneer" Toyota head unit, the connectors were different than the new Panasonic Nav unit. It turned out being quite the camp klusterfcuk. I ended up just aborting and buying a 2020. I'm thinking that if you do decide to do it, there's nothing that's keeping you from using adapters/converters, but as a friend whom works for Toyota told me, all of your features may not work on the new radio. Making it complicated is an understatement.

It's not out of the question but I prefer the look and feel of a stock radio, I'm no audiophile. I also would like the normal features to continue to work as they do now without a bunch of adaptors.

I appreciate the info. I had read that the new 2020 carplay radio would be a difficult retrofit. I'm hoping the base entune radio from 2014 and up works with the 10-13 harness, thats what I need to determine. Some of these radios are being listed on facebook marketplace for $275, making it a nice cheap upgrade if it works.

 

I think the hard part is going to be that unless someone gets a ENTUNE radio to free the butt rape on $ is not worth it to stick with a factory radio.

 

If I'm able to purchase the one I'm looking at for $200-$250 and its plug in play then it would be a great value to moderately update my 4Runner... the cheapest options aftermarket with CD were a couple hundred more plus install kit with new surround that would accommodate the larger screen. Just wish someone could confirm it will or won't work.

Seems like I've seen owners who've gone aftermarket trying to rid themselves of the stock unit. You might find someone willing to give you theirs.

 

That would be optimal if I could find someone. It seems like there wouldn’t be a market as they aren’t prone to breaking so either people don’t need them, or they want to go aftermarket.

I have a lead on a cheap one and depending on how flexible the seller is I may just buy it to try it. I suppose I could remove my stock radio first and plug it in to see if it works before purchase.

 

UPDATE:

The 14+ OEM Entune units are not plug and play, however, I found the retrofit information on another forum. There are several adaptors needed, but most are relatively inexpensive. I was able to pickup a 2016 Entune Audio Plus unit with navigation for $125 on Facebook marketplace, and will have it installed and functional for under $200. So for people like myself who prefer the look and feel of the OEM options, or want a nice upgrade at a cheap price point this a great alternative to an expensive aftermarket head unit.

The only one I haven't looked into is the SAT radio as I don't use it.

I’m sorry your unit is having issues, have you contacted your dealership to replace the Entune unit under warranty to see if you just had a defective model?

Alternately feel free to send it to me if you ho aftermarket lol.

Jayhawk, does the 14+ OEM unit have to come from a 4Runner or will one from a Tacoma or other Toyota model work as well?

 

I would have to see the back of the unit. You would still need the surround for the 4Runner. I picked mine up for $125 on Facebook marketplace.
