I have 2015 4Runner, currently stock and looking to put TRD rims and tires on it, what's biggest tires I can fit without lift kit? Also will TRD rims and tires fit on base SR5 model?

Very common question. I ran a 285/70/17 BFG KM2 on my old 2011 trail. It rubbed but was bearable IMO. You need to eventually get a lift with that tire. You Should be able to switch to a TRD wheel but when you get a lift you will need spacers most likely.

Ok so the 17 inch TRD wheels with 31.5 Nitto Terra Grapplers will rub without lift?

Just bought the 2015 SR5 premium couldn't get the trail because I needed the 3rd row. Do you think those tires will fit? I wasn't sure if there is any difference in height of the two?

New member, just purchased 2016 black Trail Premium. In process of mods.

NW4R- rig looks great. Mind if I ask what wheels those are? Currently looking at changing out factory parts.

Hello, fellow Runners. I'd like to get a more aggressive stance on the truck. Does anyone know what is the max tire size I can run on stock rims without rubbing/worrying about early bearing replacement? Also, opinions on spacers/combination of tires and spacers? Not looking to lift... Much appreciated.

I ran 275/70/17 bfg ko2 before I installed my lift with no issues.

I'm in the same situation. Selling my awesome Tacoma to get 3rd row seat so whole family can go on trails with me. Really want TRD but need seats.

No problems here. I have 285/17 Nitto Grapplers on stock wheels with no lift. There's no rubbing with just minimal bumper trimming and the mudflaps held back with zip ties. The TRD wheels are only 7 inches wide vs. the stock wheels at 7 1/2 inches so I don't know if that would make enough difference to cause trouble.

To be safe, 275/70/17 is max without lift. The guys who don't get rubbing are lucky, but I bet that is driving down the road. Any flex while on uneven surfaces is a different story. If you get some flex, I bet they rub like crazy. It is not worth it IMHO. Get a lift for 285, you can stay stock with 275.

Looks like 275s are mostly E rating. Seems heavy. How do they ride?

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything but everybody says different things and have their own opinions. You said you'll need spacer to not rub, some said spacer will even cause more rubbing, and they've experienced it.

Depends on your model and rim offset, limited has stock 245/60R20 with 15 offset. A 265/70/R17 will rub on a limited with TRD rims, 4 offset

NO WAY, you'll rub the shit out of your fender liner, mud flap, and even body mount, because that's around 34" tire.
The largest tire you can run on stock suspension is 275/70R17, some people even run 285/70R17 on stock height but I personally don't think that's a good idea

Could I drive through a cornfield with no rub on 275-70-17 tires on stock rims/suspension? (2018 SR5)

I have a 2018 Limited and I'd like to put TRD 17" wheels with a 265/70/17 tire. Would the rubbing be bearable? is it fixed with slight bumper trimming?

It is very unlikely for stock size tire of 265/70R17 to rub. But it will also depends on variable factors such as tire types, wheel spacer or not, backspace, and offset measurements.

Matt black trd wheels, ko5's, Gobi rack, tinted windows, trd stickers to match wheels (removed less manly gobi sticker)
Same size in ko2's (imo) on the TRD wheel give a great look (and look beefier).

Stock tire size on limited is 245/60/R20 not 265/70/R17 that comes on ALL other models. Diameter of both these tires are the same, however, there is almost an inch difference in width. Anyone running TRD rims with plus 4 offset and a 265 wide tire on a LIMITED will have slight rubbing. They will fit all other models with no issue.

Not disputing the link you posted, those tires will all fit.

However, you cant speak of tire size without talking about rim offset, backspacing etc.

I'm currently running a 265/70/R17 tire on my Limited with zero rubbing issues.

Combine that same tire, on the TRD rim with +4 offset instead of +15 and I will have minor rubbing at full lock.

Change that tire to another manufacturer, but same size and you may be ok. Tires have different profiles, and BF Goodrich for certain is a "narrower" tire of equal size.

The issue is not black and white.

I am yet to have someone explain to me why Limited stock size is narrower than all other 4 runner models?!?!?!!?

I'm guessing here, of course ... only Toyota engineering/design could definitively answer your question ... I've thought that they really wanted a segment of buyers to see the Limited off as "the on-road" 4runner, to capture that piece of the market in which certain buyers might be drawn to the 4runner, but pull back with "but, I'm not an off-roader." I mean, I'm trying to straddle that line. My wife and I lived in Colorado for years and were all over Rocky Mountain backroads (often rock crawling in a Jeep CJ7 to get to an out of the way fishing lake). Now, I've got a bunch of kids calling me "grandpa," so I don't do that kind of off-roading as much, but I still like those vehicles. So, I got a Limited and I'm wanting to give it a bit of an off-road look. Then, to complicate things, my son is 29, just got married, and he and his wife and their friends ask to borrow the 4runner and they are showing signs of learning the backroad ropes (they are signing up for off-roading lessons). Thus, my preoccupation with seeing if I can get the 4runner off-road series wheels and tires to fit the Limited.
