    Is anyone running these new morimoto 2nd gen xb led headlights? They look really nice and I found a few places that finally have them in stock for about $1200. I was thinking of ordering them but wanted to see if anyone else has already installed them and what they think about them. Not crazy about removing whole front bumper to install but man they look good.

    Honesty I would wait. 1st Gen was a bust and hopefully they fixed the issues? If you can wait 6 months and read reviews, aside from crappy light output dudes were burning out led. Not fun especially at that cost

    I'd wait and see if the new 2021 OEM LEDs are plug and play. $1,200 seems like... a lot.

    For less than $1200 you can buy a nice built retrofit set from other companies that can run HID/LED in the proper housing. $1200 for that is pure madness.

    Sounds like.good advise, I think I will wait and check out reviews. I thought about the 2021 being plug and play but if they are I can guarantee you they will cost way more than $1200.00. Plus I like the look of the morimoto and the smoked lenses. Thanks for replies I'll wait and see.

    4 years ago Ford started selling OEM led for the f150s. They were selling at $2,200 on sale and they couldn't keep them in stock. And we had to add a 200 buck driver, 100 buck harness

    Lux is not a good measurement of brightness when taken out of context because it changes in different situations. 1 headlight could be 3,000 Lux at 5 feet, and 800 lux at 30 feet. In this comparison the tests weren't done at the exact same point in the studio because they were done many many months apart.
    I suggest you look at the percent increase, not the Lux.

    Rev 1: 360 Lux -> 1,490 Lux = 314% Increase in Brightness
    Rev 2: 220 Lux -> 1,040 Lux = 373% Increase in Brightness

    As you can see the new headlights from Morimoto are significantly brighter when you understand the test. When we have our hands on the Gen.2 XB housings for the 4Runner, we'll be sure to get a fresh test done at the same distances so that you can have a clear idea of what to expect from the newly revised XB LED assemblies from Morimoto. Trust me, they are something to look forward to compared to the original sets! They will still get that awesome Switchback Turn Signal DRL, as well as the assuring 5-Year warranty in a DOT-Compliant Plug and Play housing, only this time they get a huge performance & reliability increase!

    Keep your eyes peeled for future content! :hattip:

    Can you post up the dot compliance paperwork? No one was ever able to find it for gen 1 on the other forum.

    Thanks for the clarification. I knew something didn’t seem right? Glad to see that 3 low beams is brighter :)

    I look forward to more reviews on this product. Perhaps HR can have a group buy discount

    Nice, you should post that in the other forum. Dude over there is like a government nerd that wanted to take retrofit source to court but was all talk and no show

    For anyone that bought these lights, a question. I bought what I assume is the 1st Generation of these lights back in October of last year. I started to get a flickering light in the corner LED in the ring of LED's around one of the headlights about 4 weeks ago. Now the other headlight/side is starting to flicker in the same spot. It's just the one tiny corner LED in the ring of LEDs on each light. I find it interesting it's in the exact same spot on both lights. It's insanely frustrating because I don't want to have to replace these. On top of that I put a paint protective film over each of them (when I had the front done) and I would have to redo that along with the hassle of trying to get them replaced under warranty. No bueno.

    Any else have issues with flickering LEDs in the ring around the headlights?

    Installed a set. Not sure if I hit the second gen or not. Have message into Headlight Revolution to see just what they sold me. My hope is since I just got these a couple weeks ago, they didn’t sell me old stock.

    They seem to be working fine but the DRL doesn’t work. Keeps blowing the 3amp fuse on fuse tap harness.

    anyone else have this problem?

    Okay, cool. But DRL still doesn’t work. Blows 3 amp fuse on fuse tap.

    all the old install videos tell you to plug the fuse tap into the side mirror heater 10 amp socket. I notice now they tell you to stick it in the 10amp injector socket. Wonder if that could be the issue. Both are 10 amp so it doesn’t make sense if that’s the case. Still waiting to hear back from both Morimoto and Headlight Revolution.

    I will say this, they are expensive but the light output versus the stock Halogens is well worth it. Pretty damn amazing.

    All the old videos showed 10amp heated mirror fuse. Just watched latest video and they show him using 10amp injector fuse. My issue with that is when he showed the underside of fuse box over with fuse layout, it’s different than my layout. Everything but the DRL is working fine. I’m just going to wait til I hear back from them for possible issues causing it.

    Can you post a pic please. Find a dark area and park. camera front and center ontop the steering wheel. This pic is gen 1 and you can see upfront right and left the dark area that curves out. just curious it they fixed it.
    [IMG]
    For reference I tested way to many bulbs and headlights. All pics taken within a few inches of the others. heres the 14 buck H9s. with the same laser lined adjustments the H9 has more usable light

    Just installed it the other day only problem I had is the 2020 fuse box is different... located the same fuse recommended to plug into per instructions... it’s located on a higher spot so the fuse lid will not close properly now

    I had same issue. Messaged Headlight Revolution and was told I was the only one who had this problem and they've never seen that before. Told me to alter the fuse box cover. I told them I'm not cutting a hole in the top of my fuse box. Also, my DRL's weren't working. Kept blowing the little 3 amp fuse on fuse tap. So if that is happening to you, they said to replace it with a 10 amp fuse.

    Also, the only reason they tell you now to put fuse tap in INJ fuse is because that's the only place they could get the Bugatti style start up feature to work. I told them I could care less about how the lights start up on ignition. I just wanted my DRL's to work. So install it in the heated mirror fuse as before. Works perfect. But boy do I miss that Bugatti style start up feature! It's pretty hard to see when sitting in the cab behind the wheel though.

    Also, don't forget to remove the plastic supports on old headlights and attach them to the Morimotos. I did. Could flex in the bumper under each headlights. Had to remove front end again to install them. Makes a huge difference. Each piece is held on by 3 screws.

    I purchase the gen2 and though it looks great on the car, it’s been a nightmare. I followed the instruction exactly. Was not hard at all and simple including putting the DRL into the heated side mirror slot in the fuse box. Upon initial start up of my car to test out the head light the battery light, ABS, traction control, multi terrain, air bag light all came on including the parking brake light when the parking brake wasn’t even engage. 15 mins later the instrument controls and head unit and all the lights went dead but car was still running. Turned off the engine and tried to turn it back on and the battery is completely dead. Went out and bought a new battery and turn the car back on and still have the same issue. Quickly turned off the engine and swapped everything back to stock and still having the same issue. Now my rig is just sitting in my parking spot with the battery unplugged and not a clue where to start to troubleshoot. All the fuses I can check looks fine. Need help!!!

    Plug it into the INJ slot. Put the 5A fuse and 10A fuse into the wire tap head. Should solve your issue.

    i did Alpharex but it’s the same concept as the Morimotos. And haven’t had a problem since. Plus they are $500-$700 cheaper.

    So did this work for you to replace the 3AMP fuse with a 10AMP? I am having a similar problem but could never get the DRL to work in the heated mirror slot. I put them in the A/C Comp slot and they worked for awhile then my battery died TWICE...well have a new battery and let's just say now the DRL doesn't work at all.

    Did the upgrade of the fuse work for you long term?

    This has been a struggle for about a year now and just want them fixed!

    Thanks for any advise!
