you will need at least 3" of lift and it'll still rub

Depending on the amount of off-roading you plan to do, the cheaper route is a spacer lift. They are fairly simple to do yourself (depending on your skill level. You may need to cut some of the fender well out too. I did my Taco and used a utility knife. No one can tell, either. Good luck and hold your wallet tight. lol

most likely trimming of the fender lining and removal of the mud flaps in the front, as well as wheel spacers or wheels with greater offset to eliminate rubbing on the upper control arm

Not my area of expertise to say... I would think it would not take much but I'm not sure.

I am running 33's on my '05 with a 3" toytec lift. To prevent rubbing, I had to....trim the finder lining, remove the mud flaps, along with a body mount chop. When off-road the Duratracs rubbed really bad on the body mounts. I tried spacers and it just made it even worse. If you do any offroading, I suggest a chop.

31s will fit but running in the mud will cause issues and you do not want those issues when your 30 kilometers from a hard packed road.

32s will fit without a lift, but you'll have some rubbing. I put my 255s on before I lifted and I just hit the mudflap on the driver side and the fender liner on the passenger side. Still slightly hitting the fender liner after lift on the passenger side. You can remove the mudflaps and push the liner forward though and you'll probably be fine without a lift.

I have 31X10.5 on stock suspension. Just got back from gorman this weekend and abused it with no rubbing...

Skinnier tires may not rub as bad. Keep that in mind.

finally got all the money ready just over a year got a 2.5 inch lift in the front and 2 inch in the back, i just ordered trd 17 alloy wheels and can't decide weather 275/70/r17 or 285/70/r17 will be best, my control arms are rubbing the slightest bit with 265/70/r17 and I'm wondering if a wheel spacer will fix the problem even after i get the bigger tires.

Did you ever figure it out? I'm getting the SCS SR8's with a 4.30 BS and -10mm offset. I really want to run 285/70's...

I did 2 inch spacer up front plus TRD Offroad Tacoma Front coil overs and an 1.5" spacer on the rear with factory coils. I will most likely replace the rear coils with FJ coils before I get my tires.

I did the 2.5/1" daystar lift with 265/70/17 KO2s and the fronts rubbed the inner fender on the front pretty bad. A pair of tin snips work great to trim out the problem areas. An off-road bumper would also take care of that.

285/70/17 is definitely gonna rub, its probably not going to be a disaster but will take some trimming
