Aftermarket vs TRD suspension

    Hi Group!
    Im new to the group.
    I’m going to finally trade in my outback for a 4Runner.

    The 4Runner will mainly be my daily driver and weekend drives to the mountains in the winter; we have a Taco Set up for trails.

    What are thoughts of buying a SR5 and upgrading to old man emu or just getting the TRD pro?

    Any other suspensions would recommend other than emu?

    You’ll get a whole variety of answers depending what people have themselves but I like the suspension on the Pro a lot. It is very soft on the road which I like. I hit a pot hole going 80 and barely felt it. Some do not like the soft suspension though. I would say if suspension is your only consideration then the SR5 would be a much better value and upgrade the suspension. As you know the Pro is a lot more and comes with other off road features that the SR5 won’t have. If you don’t want or need those or the roof rack then you could save a lot of money going with an SR5. You won’t be disappointed with the suspension on the Pro though. Coming from jeeps were I was always trying to upgrade my suspension and get a better ride, I have never felt a ride this smooth. And that also includes my wife’s Limited 4Runner. Hope this helps. Let’s see what others say.

    Which OME setup are you going for?

    The PRO comes with Fox 2.0's. This is a definite upgrade, but if suspension is your main concern, you can do better.

    For the price of a Pro, you can buy an SR5 or OFF-ROAD and upgrade to a much better setup, and have money left over for armor, winch, wheels, tires, etc.

    For OME, I've heard good things about the BP-51 setup, which I believe you can get for around $2500. This is a good price for bypass shocks with remote reservoirs and adjusters.

    If you really want to spend money, there's always Kings. Don't get me wrong, they're worth the money.

    The Pro suspension rides really nice and I love it, handles bumps like a champ. Just dont pay over MSRP for one cause dealers seem to think they can get an extra $5k or more out of you for no reason other than Pro and really its not worth paying more than MSRP for one. If they dont budge id walk and get a ORP.

    I definitely consider the Fox 2.0 an upgrade. In fact, they're probably nicer than these 6112's I'm running.

    In hindsight, I don't think I would go digressive again. They're awesome on the road, and for beating on it, but a bit harsh on washboards and in some other scenarios.

    I'm probably switching to King eventually. Maybe once my wallet recovers from this spring. :D

    If you don't need coilovers, check out the Eibach struts for our trucks or the Eibach Pro Truck lift.

    I really like the way they handle on the road, but are also very capable offroad (should you need it to be).

    I have the front struts on my truck and have been very happy with them.

    I've owned a 20 pro, in other models ran toytec, bilstien, eibach, fox and couple others and the oem fox pro rode the best in my opinion. Next up was Halo I had on a ford, its a toytec sister company and sadly the toytecs did not learn from the sister

    Kings are awesome, but total overkill for a truck that won't see trails. Plus, the maintenance would be a pain in the ass if they put on a lot of miles.

    I love my 2.65" body and 60mm piston 6112s. The only thing I'd get rid of them for is the new 8112s. But not yet

    I guess it's possible that I'm not giving them enough credit. I've beaten the truck way harder than before, so I can't give a fair comparison. I have also never owned any other off-road shocks, so my view is pretty limited.

    They seem to be great in rough terrain. They perform the way I expected, really. I just think I might prefer a Bypass shock the next time around. And, options seem limited when you don't need 3" of lift.

    With all the quality options out there, its amazing anyone can make a decision at all unless it's an entirely offroad design vs a daily driver 90/10 setup. Cant really go wrong these days but you really don't know what you're getting as it relates to ride quality unless you've ridden in multiple setups prior to deciding

    Research, research, and then some more research when you think you found the setup you like. Plenty of opinions here but you know what you’ll be using your truck for, so reasearch what will fit your needs and budget.

    The one good thing I can definitely say about the Bilsteins is that they got rid of any mushy, sloppy feel. The 4runner is very well composed on the road and highway despite having raised the center of gravity. This was also expected based on my research.
