    Hi All,

New 2020 TRDOP owner here - long time lurker, first time poster... I've searched everywhere but could not find a definite answer on this. Just ordered 6112/5060 lift with Icon 2" spring in the rear and was wondering if I would have issues fitting 285 KO2 on the stock wheels without having to do a BMC. I am going to have the fronts set to 2" lift, and would like to stay with stock UCAs for now. I read that BFGs run smaller, and I would like to hold off on replacing the wheels for now. Any help and info is appreciated.

you might rub the UCA’s and you’ll probably rub the body mount. I’d recommend ordering new rims and bang everything out at once. As they say “buy once cry once”

I put a Fox 2.5 lift F&R with OME hd rear springs and put BFG K02 285 with out cutting, I did add new Camburg UCA though.

If you don't want to cut anything 285's prolly not for you.

Its going to depend too on your wheel setup. If you’re sticking with the stock OR wheels which I believe have a positive offset, you should be good. Only thing I can imagine is as mentioned, maybe rubbing on the UCA’s. Other than that though you should have zero issues fitting the 285’s and rubbing shouldn’t be a worry if you’re hardly ever going to off road. I strongly suggest getting UCA’s as suggested though, if you can’t dial in your alignment you’ll need them anyways so you might as well do it now.

I know that it is not optimal and it seems like cutting corners. But, it is possible - this setup here is kinda what inspired me https://www.4runners.com/threads/new-lift-tires-wheels-wow.10257/ He has UCAs and different wheels. I may end up doing both at a later time, but I was wondering if I would be OK with stock wheels and no UCAs for now.

Which UCAs would you recommend for the bilsteins? I am worried about getting noises and would really like to not have to do maintenance on them. That is why staying with the stockers was appealing.

You might not be able to get alignment in spec without UCAs.

Just my opinion but do it all at once to save the headache of doing it after.

I’d recommend SPC UCA’s, they’re on the cheaper side yet still provide great performance.

I agree. For what your intended use is, it seems 275s will check most of the boxes, without needing new upper control arms. IMO

If you're concerned about noisy UCA's, stick to a ball joint UCA as opposed to a uni-ball type. I have BDS UCA's with greasable ball joints. These are better suited to a daily driver, especially if you live where it snows.

I have the 6112/5160 combo with KDSS. The 6112 are set at the 2.4” setting and I put 36-281817 Bilstein rear springs on giving me 1” of lift in the rear. I have TRD SEMA rims with 275s KO2s. I am running stock UCAs. The rig sits pretty much level. I did have to do a minor amount of trimming on the front and massaged the wheel well liner a bit, but nothing major and I have no rubbing. I also was considering the 285s in C Load but played it safe with the 275s. My MPG didn’t take to much of a hit with an average of 19.5-18 MPG. The 275s clear the body with some room to spare but I think if I went to 285s I would have to do a BMC. F4CDB4E8-6C3C-4430-BA76-A6CED344E54A.jpg

I installed the Eibach Pro Lift Kit with JBA UCA’s, running 285 KO2’s removed the front mud flaps was all that was required. No rubbing at all, in any direction.

You can probably make those fit by pushing your front fender liner forward (really, really easy) and trimming a small corner of your front fender flare (also very easy). The stock wheel specs and the correct alignment are your best bet at not rubbing the body mount with 285's.

    Here's what you do:

Put your lift and tires on and go to an alignment shop. Have them push your caster as high as they can get it. Ideally, you'd be somewhere around 3.5 - 4 degrees, but you're not going to get that with a stock UCA and a 2" lift in front. Maybe they can get something between 3 - 3.5 degrees. Have them get it as high as they can.

After that alignment is done evaluate the situation. You might rub on the front fender liner/fender flare (like I mentioned above) and you might have to trim a little. Super easy stuff. It's called the "fender liner mod" if you want to look it up.

That's your best bet. If you do rub your body mount in this situation, then you could get aftermarket UCAs, push your caster up to 4 degrees, and avoid the body mount chop. Or you could lower your front lift to 1.5" and get a higher caster number (with another alignment) using the stock UCA's and avoid the body mount chop.

I have a 1.6" lift in front with 285's on stock wheels. All I've done is the fender liner mod with my caster set at 3.6 degrees and stock UCA's. No rubbing. No body mount chop.

Thank you for all the replies and ideas. Last night and today I was kinda resolved to just getting KO2s in 275 size - but being an E load only offering is really off putting. I know that many have installed it and swear by it - but many others consider it simply too stiff for the application. Some really informative posts here though and it is encouraging to see that it can be done. I am researching beforehand to try and cut down on re-alignments and adjustments. Between work and COVID complications it is not that easy to find time for those alignment shop outings.

Do you have any pictures of the current setup? How’s the ride with the 285s? And have you flexed it enough to verify no rub?

I’m a Nube at this so I’ll give you an answer of what I think you’re asking, speaking only about the Eibach Lift kit with JBA’s. The 4Runner runs like a champ, on the highway and streets it eats up corners and curves, tracks straight. I’ve gotten up to 85mph and it just feels solid. As far as flexing, I took it out on some trails in our local mountains and It took some dips, ruts and washboard conditions at about 30 mph and it just felt good. No body sway, No nose dive. I didn’t rock climb or did anything hard core and I don’t intend to. I’m looking more into hitting back trails for hiking and camping. I need sliders tho...

I tried 285’s with my Icon stage 2 lift with SPC UCA and Rubbed when fully cranked. Was hesitant to do BMC, but decided I really wanted the 285, so I did it. No regrets. That was 2 years ago and now I’m thinking of going to 295 with a high clearance cut. If there was/is a way to fit 295 with out cutting I wouldn’t hesitate but i just don’t think it’s happening.

I can confirm you can easily fit the 295’s if you already have a BMC. I only shaved off some of the liner when I first got it done, but did the full cut just in case. I took it out on a mild trail when it had the full bottom piece of the front bumper and it didn’t rub at all. Only place I’ve rubbed every now and then is on the black cap piece where the pinch weld begins.

Lots of good info here! Thank you all for contributing. I am still undecided here. I am pretty set on not wanting to cut metal on a truck with 1500 miles on it, so 285 is A gamble I won’t be taking - at least for now. And now, I am actually wrecking my brain on whether to go with 265 in c load (with the fear that it’ll look too small with my lift) or 275 in e load (with concerns of harsh ride)... pretty set on going with KO2 though.
I am thinking that after I install my lift I might just go to DT and ask to bring two tires outside and put next to the truck to see how they look.
