I am taking delivery of a 2020 4Runner TRD ORP in a few weeks. I am lining up all of the modifications I will be making as soon as it arrives at the dealer.

Besides lift kit, tires and wheels, tint, N-Fabs, exhaust, and new grille and lower bumper trim, I was considering having headers installed. Since Magnusson does not yet have the software for the supercharger, there is now more room in my budget.

Does anyone have experience with headers on a 5th gen and if so, what was your experience?

Thank you for any information that you could provide.

Not worth it on a stock engine.

Could be good if later you put on the supercharger but not sure for what I will do it’s reasonable. I have ARH longtubes on my GT500 and they are a well done product. Take them to get a heat coating prior to install as the bare metal lets out a lot of heat that just soaks the engine bay. I had to remove and do it and reinstall which was stupid on my part.
Not sure on these there will be a lot of performance gained though.

How come they say they’re for off road use only? They look great!

my guess is emissions. Not sure but that’s what I would bet on.

I had to delete cats and use and off-road X pipe because I ran too much boost on the supercharger and melted cats so it is “off road” too but with no emissions testing in IN where I live it’s plated and street driven...though now I don’t have insurance because with a new 16yr old it saved me nearly a grand every 6 months to drop that car off the plan.

Probably pretty rare too see headers with dual exhaust out the back on the street w/ a V6.

I don't know about that,They're quite a few V6's W/dual tail pipes yet they aren't true dual exhaust. My point was IF you're going to install headers from my true muscle car days (yes I'm old) you have dual exhaust to optimize the headers. Just my $0.02:notsure:

Really, you've seen a V6 w/ HEADERS and dual exhaust? Then you've seen it all. We can definitely control the amount of back pressure are vehicles have to optimize performance and efficiency better than the old days of a carburetor, headers, and some pipes. We're not looking to optimize the headers, but to optimize performance while keeping the 'check engine' light from appearing and burning out sensors. There are definitely a few more restrictions to running a 'modern' vehicle on the street with a computer, O2 sensor, fuel injection, and emissions guidelines.

NO I said I've seen Many V6's "W/Dual exhaust" I never said Headers As I don't know what they have under their hoods? Stock V6's waste of headers, chipped/Remapped that's a whole different animal. Yes I know that the new ECM/VV engines today are QUITE different. I just personally waste the $$ on headers into single exhaust. Anybody can do what they want, it's their vehicle & their $$$. I again was ONLY stating my opinion. NO facts, just MHO

I agree. Definitely a waste of money if the vehicle is to remain stock, but if they are looking to supercharge, than they ought to install with the supercharger and tune.

If he's paying for the labor, I think the money is better spent on re-gearing (if it's needed).

I agree %100 BUT why ??? these are SUV's NOT a Mustang GT500! To me that $$ should/could be spent on so much more productive to the vehicle. Again to each his/her own, their $$$
