Hey y'all - I went to check out a little off road beater today. 1990 5 spd 4x4. I'll be going by tomorrow to drive it and talk to seller in person but they admittedly don't know much about the mechanical condition or modifications made. Suspension mods seem to be in good shape, no complaints about 22re motor or transmission but I did notice a lot of grease from around bellhousing. Pinion seal leak? Transmission? I've attached (an admittedly crappy) photo. I don't know much about the anatomy of these trucks - so any advice or leads for me to do some reading is much appreciated.IMG_20200612_134940~2.jpg IMG_20200612_134647~2.jpg

Or could the leak around bellhousing / back of motor be from valve cover leak? Help a sister out so I can go learn stuff.

Could it be the shifter boot? It looks like it's all over the transmission, coming from above..

Welcome ! From the pics I’d agree that’s coming from the top end somewhere. We need a shot of the whole truck lady ;). Good luck !

When I say beater... I mean it. The ENTIRE interior has been covered with grey carpet. Obviously a home paint job but that's also down to bare metal in some spots up top. Luckily I've got two truckbed liner kits I've been meaning to get around to using - one for my little Trucklet (RAV4, profile pic) and one for this. Ha! Aside from rust around wheel wells and where paint has cracked, no frame rust. Also I've got two sizable dogs that love mud more than I so I will NOT be scrubbing this bad gal out. Also also someone swapped the driver seat with what looks like a very well loved seat. Kinda feel like I need to replace it just out of fear of the unspeakable things that have happened in it. Hahaha!

All jokes aside it's not a bad little truck and I am excited at the thought of having something I could beat up on the trails (Trucklet takes her licks but I still need her road worthy)

OH Heck Yeah ! Nice freaking rig for a beater and sounds like dog friendly. If the price is right I’d definitely take a shot at that.

They're asking $2950. I was going to offer $2k cash and bring $2500. It's been sitting on their lot since February... Any thoughts on price negotiations welcomed.

I already decided thanks to alllllllll the carpeting (seriously, every surface from pillars to dash) she's gonna be the Shaggin' Wagon. Even though zero shagging will be happening in there I can't pass up on a pun opportunity like that.

The only person ahead of me is a friend of his that wants to look at it for his 16 year old. Man, I was driving a Chevy Lumina (Eurotrash edition) when I was his age. Downgrade! My off road beater shall not be a high schooler's first ride.

I'll try to look around for any stamp or logo, but it was pretty barren.

Well boys, she's mine! We agreed on $2200 considering in solid mechanical order and only needs a couple tweaks, that and he'd put a new ignition and battery in it. He walked away with little beyond what he had in it, IF anything. I walked away with a ready to rock 4x4 I'll be taking out ASAP.

So far we think it's just valve cover but today has been a whirlwind of shop activity on other stuff and trying to get this this notarized purchased and moved back home.

2 beautiful trucks, some gorgeous scenery. One thing I miss about living in the desert even though we have our own beauty in a different way is Green and color like that. I’m originally from the Northern California where it looks similar to the pics you both share. That and the smell of the ocean.

I must have driven every country road in Buncombe County last night. So much fun. Very necessary coffee today before I throw the dogs in (lifting a 70 lb coonhound into this thing is gonna be fuuuuun) oh and I ripped my favorite jeans climbing up into it last night. Might need a step. The downside to being little. Hahah
