Refresh my memory— a non-kdss TRDOR has the same suspension as an SR5, correct (current model years)?

The rationale for not including KDSS as an option for the Pro is because the Pro models are built very ineffectively.

The Tahara plant does not assemble a complete Pro- anytime you see pictures of trucks being offloaded from Japan, the Pros roll off the boat with no roof rack, no trim, steel wheels and stock suspension. This is because they do not have the line capacity for excess product mix. Since they are low production, they are built the same way the older "Baja Edition" Tacomas were built- all the exclusive parts are bolted on after production is complete.

Since everything "Pro" is assembled here dockside in North America, they opted not to include KDSS as an option. Changing the suspension on a KDSS truck is a much bigger pain than one with standard sways. The Pro concept 4Runner from 2014 auto shows had KDSS, but the bean counters won out for production.

I imagine the 6th generation production line will incorporate more mix capacity built in, so the Pro 4Runners can be fully assembled much in the same way the Tacoma and Tundra Pro trucks roll off the Texas line.

    Currently stock; MODS coming soon.
As long as you don’t pay mark up, go with a Pro but if you plan on upgrading/mods, go with the an OR. 2 cents

Great explanation, mynameistory! It’s funny how things happen like that. But most Pro owners are mostly concerned with aesthetics. That’s why they focus on wheels, shifter knobs and badging and unique colours. Hey, it works, too!

well that’s the nice thing about the pro. All we gotta do is focus on little details since the big stuff is taken care of.

have a 20 orp. Missed my pro...a lot but couldn't afford another.
    orp -37,700
pro rims, 800ish, will sell orp rims for 3-4 hundred
pro grill, front, rear valance 800ish
Eibach Suspension - 1100. Had it on my 19 orp and handled better than my 20 pro
    Tires I went wild peak - ~600
Don't want the exhaust, had it but if wanted can be had under 600
Add ~3k in part onto an orp, gets you a pro wanna be for ~10k less. only thing missed is JBL but one can get a lot of audio gear to still keep you in the green.
That said I would buy the pro if $$ was here;)

Thats assuming you have money in the bank of course. For me It made sense to get the pro since I wanted good suspension etc but didnt have and extra 4-5k sitting in my account to spend on toys. (new baby) So i just needed some of that stuff wrapped into the payment so thats some of my Pro justification. some...

When I was shopping for my 4Runner I dealt with a lot of sales reps that were not familiar with the trims.

Don't forget that most car salesman don't care at all about cars. They're there to make money. The really good salesmen go the extra mile, but lots of them are there for a check.

Sad but true! I have consistently known more about the vehicles I have looked at than the people trying to sell them.

I also found myself explaining the different trim levels to my salesperson, where it should have been the other way around.

Even the service advisors don’t know. I asked the guy at Guelph Toyota about what I should be aware of if I lifted my ORP with KDSS, and he said what’s KDSS? I kid you not. So, I was patient and gave him my explanation and then got his email and forwarded him a cool you tube link explaining it. About 2 months later I was in there for an oil change and I asked him how he liked the KDSS video and he said what’s KDSS? Pitiful, truly pitiful.

Also, if anyone is concerned about the travel limitations that KDSS presents, Blackgate customs is working on solutions for it. Their rear swaybar drop spacers allow you to run extended and mid-length travel shocks in the rear and achieve full droop.

Steering is the same on all trims, only difference is the tire. RusPro just had falkens on his pro and it shook bad, put the stockers back on its fine. It's just the rubber

I highly doubt this. Can you post a link to where you've read this?

As @ForRun mentioned, there is NO mechanical difference between the off-road and the PRO other than the shocks.

The only way I can see this making any sense could be that the stock tires on the PRO have more rolling resistance and you don't notice the shake.

Soo, they solved the vibration issue by replacing the lower control arms?

I thought you said they traded them in for a PRO?

    :notsure:

You do understand that your PRO has the same LCA's as my off-road, right?

Yeah but you're giving out incorrect info, which doesn't help anyone and only muddies the water. Lower control arm bushings are the same across all trims, because they're all fundamentally the same truck with minor differences.

Exactly, when buying a pro you essentially are just buying the logo. Toyota upgraded/changed the suspension to FOX from Bilstein from 2018 Pro's, but they still only use OEM springs for the rear and just add a 2" coil lift and call it an "Off road package" . Seriously you are better off buying your own lift, installing it yourself and save the 5K mark up. Installing the lift is simple.

It really bugs me when you get into a "Debate" about Pro vs ORP, and a lot of people buying the Pro assume its 10x better, top of the line model when really what you get with a pro is not worth the mark up. The rear slider tray is STUPID, I think thats all it comes with comparing it to an ORP Premium. Not even sure PRO's are the Premium model with premium sound etc.. but do come with the softTex seats and moon roof. Oh yea don't forget the Velcro first aid/band-aid kit it comes with :)

An ORP stock one will come with those horrible tires. Well as well as the entire 4WD kit that the ORP comes with (rear locker, crawl control etc..) so yea there is a difference. As far as experience on a trail, I guess that depends on the trail you go on and if you need the 4WD options.

It's incorrect because the PRO is the same mechanically, and people have experienced wheel shimmy with the PRO as well.

I don't believe anyone here has anything against the PRO. But, people who kid themselves into thinking the PRO is somehow a superior vehicle are entertaining to watch. Most PRO buyers realize what they're paying for. You obviously didn't.

Hang on guys, remember, this is the good forum. We aren't heathens LOL!

I bought a ORP so I could build it, I wanted more lift than the Pros.

I recommended my friend buy a Pro, cause he didn't want to touch it and leave it "Factory original." I explained that was put on in port, but he's ok with that, it's a extension of the factory here.

Went wheeling with him, Pro did great. I had more lift, bigger tires. We got about the same MPG there. I hit my skids less (more lift), he made it through everything my upgraded ORP did.

I winched myself out once, I pulled him out (he didn't have a winch or he would have done it).

All in all, different strokes different folks.

I get where you are both coming from, but I'd rather demonstrate to new possible 4Runner buyers that either choice is great. If you want to buy or build, you'll be pleased with what you get. If you have to ask a question like ORP vs Pro, you likely haven't gone offroad enough to know what the difference is, and in the end it's this for actual off roading (not creature comforts): 1" front lift, slightly better tires.

Both are great choices, and if you plan to get better tires, both are incredible choices.
