2020 4 Runner TRD PRO. Does it HAVE to be sold for MSRP? Is it worth the extra money?

Thanks for the info! I'll shop for a TRD Off Road and forget about the PRO.

Some places drop. Dude in one of the forums just picked up a 20 in green for 48k. Off road or SR5 is capable right out the box, you can build one out they would be much cheaper than a pro for less.
That said I miss the heck outta my Pro:angrygirl:

Literally all the other models are just as capable, especially the TRD Offroad models as they have the exact same electronic gizmos. Sure, the suspension is slightly different but I have yet to meet somebody who has boiled suspension fluid from off roading their 4Runner so hard.

The TRD Pro does command a premium however because it is the top trim level (sorry limiteds). It is exclusive and harder to get than the other models.

You may have to go out of state to find one for a reasonable price. I called six different dealerships before I found one that charged MSRP with no extra bullshit.

I bought my 2020 TRD Pro in Army Green before the pandemic hit and I was able to get it for $50,600. The window sticker price was 53K. They were very reluctant to take any money off but they can and will if you really press them on it.

If you're open to a '19 and don't care about all the safety stuff and larger screen that they put in the '20, I'd say go with the '19. You'll be able to get that dropped down a little lower than you'll be able to with a '20 (I'd assume).

I was able to shop around a few dealerships and found the color I wanted for $46k, well below MSRP at the time. EDIT: it wasn't being advertised at this price I had to haggle them down to it.

That being said, depending on the salesman and really more importantly the manager it may be a fight. My brother-in-law and his father work at a Toyota dealership in management and when I was shopping around, they told me they'd be able to get me a good deal on an ORP or below, but if I wanted the PRO, they weren't allowed to go below the sticker at all.

    Good luck and happy hunting!

Two years ago when I was shopping, had I been able to find a Pro fro MSRP (or even slightly above) I would have bought it. But here in So Cal they were all $5K-$15K OVER MSPR while the TRD ORP was $4K UNDER. The $9K difference just wasn't worth it to me.

TuRD Pro is a glorified appearance package with a mild shock upgrade. It’s absolutely not with the money.

I purchased mine from Charles Barker in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The dealership was one of the most accommodating dealerships I've dealt with over the past 10 years.

Typically not gonna get it under MSRP unless we’re in a covid nightmare like now.

unless you want a pro color, the offroad is just as good

I would disagree with that statement. The question of worth is based on the individual. For me, the ORP is not worth the uplift from the SR5. The TRD Pro has features that i value highly and can only get on the TRD Pro or Limited. Namely the 15 speaker audio system with Remote connect and automatic headlights. These may be worthless to you, those along with the upgraded suspension, exhaust, interior, wheels/tires, makes the TRD Pro the best option for me.

No it doesn't. The only trim packages that offer the 15 speaker audio with Remote Connect and automatic headlights are the TRD Pro and Limited.

you’re right, but either way, your disagreement is an opinion. The offroad is just as capable as a pro.

It’s up to the buyer if they want to spend up to 10k more for a different color and 15 whopping speakers.

Which is exactly what I said. You chimed in with a hot take and clearly didn't read what I wrote. The ORP does not have the options for Remote Connect or automatic headlights (TRD Pro can't get KDSS). You would have to pay MORE than sticker price to add the TRD Exhaust, TRD Wheels, Nitto Tires, Fox TRD suspension to the ORP. So you get more than the premium audio for 10K. Maybe those aren't valuable to you and you prefer to customize differently than factory, go for it.

    again, lots of opinion.

Most people who buy a premium and do mods, mod it to their liking, not to be a pro replica. I strictly bought a pro for the color and because I’m tired of modding trucks I sell.

Automatic headlights :kona::kona: I don’t even use mine

Not sure when things like automatic headlights or push button start became important features. Maybe there was a glut of carpal tunnel injuries from all the damn twisting?

Only benefit to a PRO over the ORP, IMO, is the slightly better suspension and the available colors. The other stuff is worthless to me, in fact, the exhaust is just annoying and 15 speakers don't mean dick to me when I ride in silence with the 5 windows down. Hell, I don't even need AC. ORP with a better aftermarket suspension is much preferred for my use... so that's what I got.

    Opinions vary!

TRD ORP is often bundled with premium audio & dimming headlights and KDSS. At least the dealers bring them in that way here in Hawaii.

What you are talking about is not the same thing. DRL is daytime running lights. Automatic headlights turn off/on depending on the ambient light sensor. The audio packages are listed here. The 15 speaker audio is only available on the TRD Pro and Limited. The 15 speaker system is required for the Remote Connect feature which enables remote start/lock/unlock from your phone.

You are better off with a 2019 SR5 or a 2020 if you want a bigger screen and new tech features, then throw some bilstein 5100s and 33" tires and call it a day.

Sorry off topic. It says the TRD Pro comes with 15 speakers but I only counted 9 speakers including the Sub. Where's the other 6 speakers?

I bought the venture model for $39,900. Put a lift on which is higher than the pro, new tires which are bigger than the pro and all the pro cosmetic exterior stuff as well as the engine upgrades like pro exhaust and intake and still spent over $5000.00 less than buying a pro model. IMO looks and performs better than pro model for $5000.00 Less.

"Bigger" lift doesn't necessarily mean better performing. Everyone around here is so obsessed with how "big" their lift is, and don't understand the performance or capacity of their suspension.

For example, a spacer lift or a set of maxed out 5100 shocks can "look bigger", but they won't perform as well as a set of Bilstein 6112/5160 or Fox 2.5 shocks from the Pro. By perform I mean the ability to control the truck and take bigger/more frequent hits, offroad at speed.

I agree with you, I personally like a higher lifted truck coming from a ford raptor. I wouldn't do a spacer lift. I did a full suspension lift that I researched before buying. There are tons of suspension lifts available that outperform the fox 2.5 at a fraction of the price. Dont get me wrong I think the pro is a awesome 4runner just way over priced for what u get and you make any other model 4runner look and perform just like a pro and save a bunch of cash. The only thing I would like that I cant switch that the pro has is the climate control.

The JBL system is not very good at all. You will have a much better sound system just replacing your 9 speakers with a high quality speaker, like Focal or Harman kardon. Take out one of those jbl speakers and look at them, very light and cheap material. I'm surprised Toyota would even put them in a vehicle.
