Airing down driver rear tire this morning and heard a sound which sounded like an air leak, thought I picked up a nail. Turned engine off and noise was gone. Started truck again and noise came back. Almost sounds like a leak of some sort accompanied with the noise of the pump if I place my ear close to the bottom of the tank/skid plate.

Hard to place but the hissing/air leak sound seems to be in the vicinity of the top of the fuel tank.

Went to air back up later on with the engine running and the noise was still present.

    Truck has approx 1700 miles.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the help.

Just a side note, did some searching on google and looks like it has been noted by some Tacoma owners....

Any update on this? I just noticed this on mine, sounds like it’s the pump. I had a 2017 Tacoma and it had an odd noise the the fuel pump as well but doesn’t sound the same.

probably had little gas in the tank .. then the pump makes noise.
I keep the gas level above 1/3 all the time ...

Mine still does it. Occasionally but never occurs when full, only under 3/4 capacity.

The fuel tank recall does not include my build date. I have no codes, normal mileage at about 18....not worried about it.

If it throws a code then I will take it in but the truck performs great.

I did a little lore inspecting, it’s been raining a lot lately and just had a day with no rain yesterday, and couldn’t really hear it at all. I think it might be water on the exhaust somewhere sizzling off as there’s no symptoms related to the fuel system. Not worried about it as well, but will keep an eye on it as there was a massive recall for fuel pumps in other Toyota’s.
