What are these tires doing to the mileage on your 4runner?

 

That’s a pretty generic qeustion. Effect on MPG is going to depend on the tire size, the load rating, weight of the tire, tire pressure, what tires you were coming from, driving style and if you’re hard on the gas to make up for it being slower with heavier tires.

There are to many variables to give a relevant answer.

 

I would think people that have these tires on their 4runner would know the difference in mileage between their old tires and the Falkens

 

Stock size I lost zero. Same mpg

I would think the people that ask for a comparison would specify exactly what 2 items they would like compared.

 

I swapped mine out fairly quickly after I got my 4Runner but I would say it’s pretty close to stock mileage. At worst maybe .5mpg or so

Echo others in here that it’s close to stock, maybe a bit of an immaterial hit. Probably due to the fact that the tire is heavier than stock at the same size.

 

Thanks pk808. That's what I was thinking they are little heavier than stock. Didn't think it would make much difference. Thanks again.

 

I have about 45k miles on mine and love them. I will replace them with another set when needed. I am trying to convince my brother to put a set on FJ he just bought. Now granted I haven’t done a ton off roading with them so I can’t give my opinion on that so someone else would have to chime in. But overall it handles just about everything I have thrown at it. I have lived from in Utah, Ohio and PA with them and they have handled snow, rain and whatever else I have thrown at them.

265/70/17 on TRD Wheels and we seem to have lost 1mpg or so.

 

Those are the ones I plan to go with. I'm trying to wear out these Duelers as fast as I can!

 

Per the OP's request, did you notice any mpg hit vs. with the tires you replaced?

 

I dunno how anyone lost mpg. I've had 2 sets on 2 different runners and lost none. Maybe because they were put on the runners basically new and mileage improves after break in?

 

As a posted above it was pretty minimal maybe .5 mpg. It seemed worse at first but I also had them put on right before winter hit and winter mileage always sucks lol. I avg between 18 to 20 during non winter and I loose about 2 or 3 mpg when winter hits.

I had stock size Falkens AT3W SL tires put on the same day I bought my 4Runner from the dealer.
I tracked my MPG for the month of March. Figure I have all that heavy stuff in my signature line plus a Sprint Booster.

March 3, 2020 281.6 miles 14.656 gal 19.21 MPG
March 9, 2020 249.5 miles 13.6 gal 18.34 MPG
March 15, 2020 257.5 miles 14.663 gal 18.93 MPG
March 18, 2020 106.9 miles 5.953 gal 17.95 MPG
March 21, 2020 165.1 miles 9.984 gal 16.53 MPG

Total miles driven = 1060.6
Average of 5 Fill ups = 18.192 MPG


I live in the country with lots of hills and curves. Nearest Stoplight, McDonalds, or Walmart is 35 miles away. Above MPG may include some use of 4WD.

 

I live in northern Arkansas with the same driving conditions so will get close to same mileage. Thanks for the info DRobs

Yes, I live just outside the city of Mtn, Home in a little town called Buford.

 

I'm up in Theodosia, MO. I hit some of the trails around Byrd's Off Road Park back in October - pretty cool area.

Trying to get some guys together for a Trail run. There's 2 guys up in Ozark / Springfield.

 

Just swapped out my Nitto TG2’s for a set of these. Haven’t had These long about 1000 miles. In my opinion the Falkens are a much more capable tire when compared to the TG2’s.
MPG:From stock tires to the Nitto’s (285/70/17)I dropped from approximately avg 21mpg to 20mpg. These Falken beasts (10 lbs heavier than my Nitto’s) I’m down another 1mpg approx 19mpg Mixed road driving, but they ride well. 4runner is my DD. The Nitto’s tread wear was great (rotate every 5,000) as I will do the same for these.

 

I had to literally never accelerate to get 18-19mpg. I don't see how 20-21 is even possible.

 

I live at the beach. My terrain is flat. (Think Florida)Mid-Atlantic region. If I lived in hill country there’s no way I could hit those mpg’s. Accelerate? What are you crazy.
This weekend I’m going to see how they run on the beach.

 

Just put on mine in early Dec and after about 1500 miles no change in mpg. Had some pretty solid snow storms too and they are rock solid in the snow, happy with the purchase so far, maybe would've considered one size up if i had it to do over but theres always next time.

 

For the past 5 weeks I’ve been running the Pennsylvania turnpike heading to Allentown. The Nitto’s ran like a top. Although I never really trusted them on wet roads. Mild snow (8”), state maintained trails no issues. I’ll be heading that way in a couple weeks; it’ll be interesting to see how these compare. So far driving in wet conditions I’ve had zero issues. I feel the truck is definitely more capable/stable running these Falkens. I just hope they wear well.
