I been itching for a corvette lately lol

 

No air bags - ok maybe on a trail but not ok on today’s high speed, big roads and aggressive drivers. I agree about the welds and low quality manufacture, but at least the JL has air bags even if they do poorly in crash tests.

Keeping the 4runner as a daily/family and saving up for a used fj for mods and off roading. Had a 2008 fj team trails before the 4runner which was awesome but stupid me traded it in .

 

Jury is still out but someone got a quick partial pic of the bronco. Also they are going with the 2.7 eco in it. I had that engine in my 16 150, went like a bat outta hell and when I babied it got 23mpg city 27 hwy in a 1/2ton. I would need to see a track record and would never buy a 1st year run vehicle

 

They'll never be as sought after like the EB's are. And for that matter, the early TLC's and K5's too.

Imo of course.

 

Coming up on 1yr this May … plan is to keep it. I did look at older 4Runners before I made the decision to buy new, but couldn't find the right truck/deal. With excellent credit the APR is a non factor (almost) and buying new helps credit even more in the long run. The way Toyota holds value was also a big contributor. I'm creeping up on 7k miles so by 2029 it should still have plenty of life left for another 10 years

Someone at Ford must have been a Big Hero 6 fan. I don't think it's terrible, but those fender flares are pretty hideous.

Yeah, I agree. It’s out of proportion with that long body and that low soft top. Maybe a two door would look more in scale. But on the positive side, once the after market attacks it, it could look ok with lots of cool custom parts. I’m happy with the way the 4 Runner looks and performs. It’s as close to perfect as it gets.

 

Before we purchased the 4Runner last February, the new Bronco was what I was after. I do like it, and also agree that customizing the Bronco with bigger wheels and tires will help with the flares - perhaps that is Ford's intent. Too bad the new Bronco doesn't come with some version of the Coyote engine.

I wonder if Fiat will fight back and straighten up their bs now that it looks like good competition? Coming from a 150 that 2.7 is no joke, cram it into that 2 door and I would bet mpg would well we able to hit 30+

Yet, it will sell like hotcakes. I expect that you are saddened by the fact that, at least at this point, there is no electric option. Give it time.

 

I hope so! I can hardly wait for lots of electric choices in trucks and real SUVs, although for me personally, the only electric choice that would get me to leave Toyota would be a Tesla. And even then, I’ll keep my current 4 Runner for my ICE moments.

 

I expect you will have bit of time to wait for lots of choices. Not sold on Elon Musk.

 

Yeah, there are a few on the cusp of release - Hummer, Rivian, Bollinger, a F150 based on a Rivian drive train, maybe a Jeep a little further out. So they’re coming. As for Elon, he’s a colourful character so he attracts fans and haters - I’m pretty well agnostic about such things. I assess 2 tons of plastic and steel solely on its engineering merits.

 

So what is the range of a typical electric vehicle now? Something as heavy as a truck or SUV would have to make quite a leap in battery technology to even go 400 miles before needing a charge. What do you do if you just happen to end up "empty" in the middle of nowhere? Charging stations located throughout the U.S., realistically? Not there that I can tell. Way down the road.

 

The Tesla Cybertruck will have the greatest range at 500 miles, which is the bar to reach. Tesla has its own network of supercharging stations across the US, Canada, and Europe. Driving between major cities shouldn’t be a problem. My brother in law in Denmark has a Tesla model S and he has driven it to Italy without a problem. My son in law has a Tesla Model 3 in Austin, Texas and he doesn’t have any range problems with it. There are a lot Tesla’s in Norway, which is a big northern country. I’ve driven 3 different Tesla’s and they’re great, high end cars, with excellent dependability and fit and finish. Would I drive a Cybertruck up the Dempster Highway, in the Yukon - haha, no. There’s no charging stations up there yet. But in the south, between major cities, no problem.

 

Average person drives less than 40 miles a day. Would suspect the average light duty truck owner drives slightly less given that the majority of commuters use sedans.

400 mile days are few and far between for the overwhelming majority of drivers. EV’s will handle easily 95% of the daily drivers. For the 5% minority who’s needs aren’t met, there are plenty of options.

When I replace my 18 Tundra Platinum and 20 4R Pro with their EV successors, I will gladly just remember to plug them in at night rather than deal with gas stations / oil changes / etc. Sure, I will have to plan slightly more when making long distance trips or hauling, but everything is a trade off and it won’t be bad.

 

I couldn’t agree more that’s how I see it too, akmerle - I’ll be keeping my 4 Runner for overland trips because the hinterland of Canada will need an ICE vehicle for a few more years, but as soon as I get the call from Tesla, my next daily driver will be a Cybertruck. I’m in the 33,000 range with my order, which means sometime in the latter part of the first year. I can hardly wait for the improved technology and to drive past gas stations!
