Ha ha! I think I will post on a different thread to get some photos of people actually using the rack and what they used to secure everything.

Yeah, I agree, even the standard roof rack isn’t that functional and looks like something off of an old timey station wagon from the 70’s or 80’s. There are lots of great after market options for anyone needing to put stuff on their roof that come with attachments, and accessories to make it easy.

I like it okay, just depends on what you use a rack for. I can certainly see reasons why you'd want a full rack or a different rack for certain purposes, a roof top tent for one. But, it does look different and is kinda cool for that reason, if you dig its road warrior looks. I haven't had any trouble using it for my large Pelican gear storage boxes, traction boards, and some other normal things, so for me it works fine (not that a Gobi or something else wouldn't work even better). I will say that I don't think the 4 crossbars that it comes with are sufficient, and I think this rack would work much better with one more crossbar, though I haven't yet found out where to get one or even if they are available a la carte (so far online I can only find the whole entire rack for sale). My wife does finance at a Toyota store, so I"m going to have her ask the parts guys if they can order an extra crossbar for it. Would I have preferred a full flat rack? Yes. But this one works just fine for my purposes, so I'm not sure I'll bother replacing it...

so. Liked for some things but as pointed out - so short as to be useless for ladders, lumber, etc.
Got one of those "OEM look" kits off ebay and extended mine forward. Extra load bars make for a decent 'bed' now on the lower lever. Upper level I can load with long items, boxes, etc. I guess adding extra feet ups the 'load limit' - which seems way conservative...
Thule boxes and other rack mounted items clamp on easily enough - extended length lets me move things around more.

    Thanks.
Made couplers out of delrin. Not quiet simple tubes as the kit bars have flats on the ID. True OEM tubes don't. I have a machine shop, so easy for me to do.
I did put in 8mm rivnuts for the new front pad locations.

I have a surplus of cross bars now and have them all on it. Need to weed some out

looks amazing. Now that there are six mounting points, are the front ones bolted down like the others?
