Would love to hear how everyone’s radio is responding after the update. Yes, the calls are great now. BUT...during the call, the radio is really sluggish. Touch screen doesn’t respond well at all and is very delayed. After the calls ends the radio station goes out. You have to change the station.

They would get ZERO of my dollars in the future. Check the pictures I sent and tell them you want them to apply the Tech Service Bulletin. It’s at the bottom of the second page. It’s not a recall.

I’ll check that out tomorrow. I had no issues going from calls to Audible & Apple Music. I’ve never used the internal FM functionality

I am so frustrated. I was really hoping this would fix all the issues. Calls are now great, but If I try pressing any buttons for Apple Car Play during the call, there is a big delay and very sluggish..ugh!

Why do you have to go to the dealer for an update? I just bought my 20 4R Premium. Isn't there a way to udate yourself?

Only if your head unit identifies an update is available OTA. It's a 10 minute appointment at the dealer. They can actually log into TIS and download the update, you can't.

Just got this new 2020 4runner and Apple Play is still not working... Super frustrated...reaching out to see if anyone knows anything that we haven’t already tried. It’s been into the local Toyota shop and it’s escalated up the chain.
Bluetooth will connect but my phone CONSTANTLY flashes "Accessory Not Supported" if it’s plugged into charger, other port for Apple play or not even plugged into a cord just connected to blue tooth...and Apple play won’t even work at all.
I have plugged in other iPhones and they do the same, so I don't think it's my specific phone. I sat in the dealership shop for over an hour with the tech guy doing everything we could and they don't know why. Help!!

    Hi,
Not sure if checked any of this. What iPhone and did you try a new plug to make sure your other one is ok. My iPhone works great in my 2020 Pro with Apple car play. I know I was having issue connecting Apple car play in my other car. The issue I found I took a can of electronic dusted spray and sprayed it in where your plug goes in. If there dirt in there it does not make a good connection. Talking about where the plug goes into the phone.

Just had this done at the dealership this morning.

Update fixed the phone audio clarity through Carplay on my end... BUT, my callers are still hearing a delay or echo on their end of the call. I'm having the same issue with Bluetooth. Echo on the recipient end. Is anyone else having the same issue?

My truck did not show it needed the update,,, 2020 Sr5 running the 1021 software. Called the dealer ( Toyota of Mckinney) who told me to bring it in. Brought the truck, showed my service guy the copy of the TSB. He advised it would take about 20 min or so. Wrong!!! They had to disconnect the battery for 30 min or so to re set everything. Once that was done, Entune showed an update ( 1047).

Updated and made a couple of calls with the shop foreman in my truck. Everything works!!!!! No issues , crystal clear phone call and no screen freeze.

    Happy camper

Another 2020 4Runner TRD ORP Headunit issue. It is currently at the dealer who says it takes half the day to diagnose the issue. Looks to be the same or similar issue as other posts. I use Carplay majority of the time. Calls cut in and out until it gets bad enough that the call just ends. Meanwhile there is a clicking sound in the dash while this is happening. Also the display gets very pixilated where it is completely unreadable. I'm not sure if it only happens when a call comes in or not however I am a Realtor and use the google maps very frequently and my phone rings off the hook. When on a call and it starts acting up, I have to unplug the phone but even when connecting through Entune the call cuts in and out. This is extremely frustrating with the amount of $$$$ I paid and specifically chose this year model for the Carplay feature with my line of work. I have been a loyal toyota owner for over 25 yrs. I hope to keep it that way. Just dropped $8k into my suspension lift, wheels tires and links. Returning it doesn't seem like it could even be an option. Less than 1000 miles on it.
I hope to get good news here soon. I will post an update once I get my vehicle back. Fingers and toes crossed. I wanted my first post on here to be a positive one with pics of how happy I am with my brand new lifted runner.

Just point them to that TSB that I attached to pictures of and have them install the latest software for the head unit. It's a 10 minute fix. They shouldn't have to do anything but perform the install and restart the car when it's done. Shouldn't need to unhook the battery or anything like that.

Yes good call, I will send it to them. Sad to think that they might not have this already. Mine did say that it had the latest update. I hope that is all it needs. Thank you!

The head unit will say it is up-to-date no matter what version is actually running. if you go back in time on this thread you'll see all the work it took for me to get this fixed. Bottom line, your head unit needs to be on the 1047 software and the only way to get it is through the service department downloading and installing it at the dealership. It may, at some point, show up as an over-the-air update but that is not a given.

After the update, calls are clear on my end. CarPlay and Bluetooth calls from where I'm sitting sound just fine. No complaints.

On the other side of the call it's a different story. Callers or recipients complain of an echo on their end. They can hear themselves talking. Makes it difficult to have a conversation even if it doesn't effect my side of the call. I've experienced it myself calling my phone from my office land line and other cell phones. I can hear the echo.

This is happening on CarPlay and Bluetooth calls.

    I've tried:
Adjusting the iPhone bluetooth volume all the way up
Adjusting the iPhone bluetooth volume all the way down
Adjusting the ln call volume settings up and down through the head unit.
unpairing/pairing the phone before and after updates
4 different cables and 2 different usb adapters
Putting the phone in my pocket during calls
    Muting/unmuting the call in progress

Nothing I've tried has solved or helped the echo issue. I've read post after post over the internet about this issue with Toyota and bluetooth echo across many models, not just the 4runner. I don't know what else to do to fix this problem but it seems every service adviser I've mentioned it to shrugs their shoulders and acts like they've never heard of such a problem. Hell, I had to show them the screenshot of the TSB just to get them to install the software update.

    Very frustrating.

I was very happy to see the posts here on Tuesday with the images of the 1047 update. I scheduled a service appointment and used this thread as a catalyst to getting them to take any action at the dealership. They were initially reluctant to do anything.

Process took about an hour. Had to factory reset the radio and asked me to forget the radio on my phone. Once finished it still had the phone call issue. I also noticed that it had a different upgrade number 1021. I called the service rep to ask why they didn’t use 1047 and was told that the TRD Pro’s radio is different than other 2020 4Runner models and could only be upgraded to 1021. Anyone else with a TRD Pro have any success here?

Just got back from the dealership to get this issue fixed. I have a 2020 TRD ORP with iPhone 11- and I hate to say it but appears your dealership F'd up and as is typical, are misinformed and just plainly really bad at their jobs. There were 2 software upgrade numbers that needed updating - 1007 AND 1021, both don't work. I had 1007, some had 1021. The new version according to their own records is the same version for both regular and premium audio. I had to explain to them exactly what needed to be done, and had to show the service guy the TSB number that came from Toyota - spelled out earlier in this thread. He wrote it down and went to work. They were going to perform some big electronics diagnostic test, I told them - no, it is not needed. I know the problem and here is the solution. They had the Truck for 2 hours, which is overkill, but it now works perfectly. My service invoice clearly states, updated software from 1007 to 1047.

Went to dealership today. Updated 2020 TRDP radio to audio version 1047 and Navigation to 1030. Currently using this with an iPhone 11 Pro Max. All is working great. Haven't had anyone complain about echo yet. Happy to see some with the issue fixed. Those of you who are still having issues, I would recommend removing your phone from the bluetooth side of the headunit and start fresh.

I had to show them the photos of this thread of the updates that needed to be performed. First they told me I didn't have an update available, but I reassured them that I did. Then they dug a little more and found it. Took a whopping 10 minutes to perform the update.

Also make sure they do both updates. One for Nav and the other for Audio. The Audio update is what is going to fix your Apple CarPlay issues.

Read above. Updated 2020 TRDP at dealership today. Had to push a little with them, because they didn't show an update for 4runners. Show them the photos from this thread. Facts don't lie. TRDP have the same audio updates as the rest of 2020 4runners.

I actually got a courtesy call from my Toyota Corporate Rep who was handling my case and she told me I was really lucky to work with my Service Manager because he actually got it an understood. She said many of them just don't understand the problem or how to diagnose/look for the solution. Long story short, whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. There are only 2 radio options for the 4Runner and both of them are covered in the TSB. That is what that table breaks down in pretty simple english. I would open a case with Toyota Corporate (shouldn't take long), it'll put pressure on the dealership to fix the problem and not mess around.

Sorry to see you are still having issues. My iPhone 11 Pro Max has the echo issue but only when i'm on speaker phone (which I used to use all the time at home). Now I have to use a bluetooth ear bud for conference calls. I can't offer any fix ideas for you but I would suggest documenting it with your dealer and opening a case with Toyota corporate. Try another phone if you can and see if that has the same issues. You are going to need to determine if it's your car or your device that is having the problem.

So you basically disconnected the battery for 30-40 minutes and did update trough dealer or head unit itself?

The battery was disconnected for a hard re set,, the dealer did the install. The shop boss advised the radio ( I am assuming the entune/radio head) showed an update was available (1047), and it was updated.

Just got the car back from the dealer and update 1047/1030 were performed....however, my car still DO NOT start apple car play.
I have an iphone 11 pro with 13.3 IOS.

The only positive thing is that I stopped getting the "Not supported accessory" message that was about it.

I don't even get the CARPLAY icon to pop, instead, there is a "projector" icon on the left bottom corner but once I click in there, nothing happens.

I could see a lot of dealer being reluctant to perform this update, I believe many of them are not aware of this and I think that the only reason they persisted was because I called toyota and had them schedule this service for me.

Mine is a 2020 TRD pro.

Am I doing something wrong on the phone configuration?
