Lazy American workers... Make sure its well documented for any future issues. Are they replacing the "carpet"? I personally would contact corporate, just to say WTF.

4Runner is 100% made in Japan unless you know something I don't! Good point, I am going to ask about that.

Wooooaahhh, that's definitely a call to corporate. The 4Runner is a ten year old production line, there's no excuse for that sort of defect. I'd ask for a new truck, who knows what else will crop up in addition to your moisture and mildew concerns.

Agreed, I'm going to call them.

Glad to hear that Toyota is taking care of this issue. Which they should. All we need now is for the Toyota Trolls to use this as ammunition saying Toyota is junk, just like how they use the Tacoma frame rust damage issue.

One day i want to make a thread that documents all the issues, just to shut up the fan boys. Everything mechanical has issues and anything made by man will fail. Good and bad in everything.

Every auto manufacturer has fan boys and every auto manufacturer has mechanical issues. I just put my hard earned money towards a company like Toyota that will have a shorter thread of documented issues than the rest of the other auto manufacturers. So more than likely, everyone will have to shut up.

You’ll want to call corporate and open a case. They’ll give you a case number and follow up with you on progress until the case is closed. You want to be sure this fix is done properly, with corporates approval and advise.

And if you can smell mold/mildew... it’s in there and it’s not going away. You may want new carpet, sound proofing, etc. Ask corporate about it when you call.

I agree. You are now basically in possession of a flooded vehicle (you don't know how bad it got). That could cause problems with electronics or anything. This is a very bizarre case & I wonder if it is limited to the 2020? As stated earlier this is a 10 yr old truck & the Venture package is an appearance package. Would you mind sharing the location of this "body seam weld" so that others may check their 5th gens. I imagine today these trucks are computer welded & I fail to understand how a computer can just "miss a weld".
I am sorry for your troubles and appreciate the insight you have brought to us all.

The more I think about this, the more questions I have. I wouldn’t let a dealer touch this until I spoke in person with someone from corporate along with the dealers service manager. I would want to see the “missed weld” and know how it was being repaired (among a few other things).

Do not turn a dealer loose on this without doing your due diligence. There are a LOT of unanswered questions here. This is a $40k investment you’re sitting on.

Had to be a robot miss somewhere down the line as I am pretty sure none of the seams are hand welded by humans. I wonder how many were missed cuz a robot just does not decide to not weld every seam it is told to in the programming. There could be hundreds, thousands of 4's with the same issue. Crazy.

I have a 2020 Venture also and have not had this happen. Been through a couple storms and yesterday even went to the local car wash. Checked every where OP said he had moisture and it was dry.

I sat on hold for 30 minutes yesterday and never got to speak to someone, calling again today.
    Agreed.

The service writer didn't know, I am going to pop in today and ask them to see it.

    Agreed.

    Don't know yet.

Opened a case with Toyota, they called the dealer. The dealer told them they don't know what seam it is coming from, I guess that is their theory at this point. Expressed concerns about mold growing and having other issues down the road. The Toyota rep said the dealer would remove the interior and dry it out. I asked what would happen 8 years from now if this issue popped up again, she said it would be covered since it was reported under warranty. Will share more info when I get it, no ETA on when I will get my vehicle back. The Toyota rep did say she has never heard of this issue before.

Assume they are giving you a loaner for the time being while your vehicle is in the service center?

Get that in writing that they will cover after warranty expires because I will bet you that after warranty expires and should you revisit this issue at a later time, Toyota will state your car is no longer covered in the bumper to bumper warranty.

Service Writer phone, Toyota Rep phone as well. Correct, I do have a case though and will ask for some type of written statement.

I have dealt with Toyota Motor Corp Reps before and I had extreme difficulty getting things in writing, they communicate via phone and would not email or send anything in writing. The dealership will only write up the work they completed but as far as what was communicated or promised to you from the rep will be just hearsay. I hope you don't have the same experience.

EVERYONE CHECK YOUR TRUCKS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *While yelling hysterically*

    *In a much calmer voice*

Plenty of scenarios where a machine could miss a weld.

What if the machine ran out of wire (or gas) in the middle of that weld and it wasn't caught until the next weld?

Lots to speculate on, but I wouldn't speculate that it's a widespread problem with only one report of the instance occurring. Lots of 2020's have encountered wet conditions already, I'm guessing.

I agree with this also. Very likely a one-off.

I hesitate to speculate on anything until we know exactly what the situation is. A “missed body seam weld” could be any one of a thousand different things. It’s obviously significant in the OP’s case. But let’s sit tight until we have some more details.

Keep us posted, OP! You have a lot of people curious (and hoping for an amicable and complete resolution on your end).

Some rep on the phone isn't going to offer anything promised in writing it isn't their place nor do they have the authority. Think about it would you?

About to go pick it up. Turns out it went back and forth with body shop past few days and they could not find leak from above. It was the body plug in the floorboard, they water tested it from below and found the plug to be leaking water. They said that they re-sealed it and it is no longer leaking. I need to bring it back next week to have the carpet replaced, hoping this is the end of this issue.
