If you have time can you post a pic on a dark road? I put the cell top center of the steering column. Looking for pics to put into the bulb comparison thread

I know most prefer HIDs. I've never liked aftermarket kits. It's been a few years but i've always found they fail at the worst time possible. That being said, anyone want to give their thoughts on the differences between the XD H11 XTREME LED PRO vs. Headlight Revolution SV.4? I'm also considering skipping replacement bulbs and going to the XB headlight units that people tend to hate. I typically drive with the low beam and fogs on at the same time so I'm thinking i'll be happy with the beam pattern and look of the headlights.

I wouldn't use LED bulbs unless they are specifically designed for the vehicle you're putting them in. They tend to throw light all over the place and blind oncoming traffic. This isn't always the case, though.

I'm hesitant to put the wrong type of bulb in a housing. I might look into it. I imagine it will be expensive for a quality conversion.

Mine cost $78 a HUGE improvement over halogens. The HIDs work perfect in the 4runner housing.

I know some of you are following crashnburn’s threads on Tacoma World. Here’s a little insight into his thoughts on HID’s in halogen projectors (I tend to agree).

HID’s in halogen projectors are incredibly bright. So bright that I wouldn’t want to run them not only due to bothering other drivers, but because I don’t want an oncoming driver looking at my 4runner HID’s for a quarter mile as they approach me on a two lane blacktop at night. I don’t want some elderly driver blinded and running into me at 55mph.

I lowered my Lights after installing HIDs , zero issues. Crash is wrong on this one.

This reinforces my reasons for staying with halogen.

How did you test this? Do you have any pictures of the cutoff from before and after the swap?

I'll try to do this over the weekend. I don't usually drive it during the week. And, the last few weeks have been ultra sucky at work:confused:

I don't have a lot of dark roads nearby, so I had to settle for a field.

Here are the Nightbreaker Laser H11 headlights..
    20200103_174850.jpg

And here are the Nightbreaker Unlimited HB3 high beams..

    20200103_174900.jpg

I did a mixture of city and highway driving this evening, and I'm extremely happy with them.

For a direct drop-in replacement, i would definitely recommend them.

That looks pretty good. Out of all the bulbs you have tried do you like these best?

I had the OEM bulbs in before. This is definitely an improvement over stock.

I tried a few different bulbs in my Tacoma, but I never really compared the results.

If you look at the beam pattern on a garage door or wall, do the far left and right sides look like blue light?

also curious to know... if you look through the projector lens at the filament, can you tell if there is blue coating in front of it? Or is the filament showing through clear glass?

I hadn't noticed. I'll try to check it out tomorrow if I have time.

Are you asking if the actual bulb has a blue tint? If so, yes. They both have a blue-ish tinge. I posted pictures of the bulbs in this thread (post numbers 55 and 81) if that helps.

Due to the side entry/angled orientation of the 4runner low beam bulb, I’m wondering how this particular Osram bulb sits in the socket.

Osram chose to coat this bulb blue in a particular way/pattern. But they did that assuming most (all?) bulbs are positioned the same way in a housing. Incidentally, the T4R bulbs are “oddly housed”.

Really recommend you read this before spending any money and possibly creating an unsafe situation for you or others:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

Bottom line is that the best bright but safe solution for the 4R is upgraded H11s or just plain H9s trimmed to fit. Both would also prevent hassle with the law. LEDs and HIDs all look super bright and white in photos or when you stare at them, but they either decrease your distance vision compared to stock halogens and/or create glare that is both unsafe and a rude thing to do to other drivers. I'm not saying that a good HID system is impossible, just darn unlikely. A good drop-in LED system is basically just impossible. It's physics. Don't be fooled by user photos and marketing hype. Actual scientific tests show this to be true.

PS -- Toyota sells OEM DOT legal LED High Performance Fog Lights for just $130. I had my dealer install them for me on my Limited. They work well. And are safe and legal.

The temps with a gun were up over 200° in some spots on the H9; in comparison to 160-170° with the H11’s. Don’t quote me on that, but I think I saw that on one of the threads on Tacoma world.

The Philips +100 H11 is a nice bulb. I think it’s called “Xtreme vision” or something like that.

Look into 9011 HIR bulbs. They fit with a similar trim.

Thanks. Would they give a whiter appearance with any of the negative effects of the other bulbs on the market?

No, they will have the warmer color of halogens. Warmer light is less harsh on your eyes anyway.
