Only at higher RPM...no MPG change I can tell, still sucking up the oil reserves. It is awesome when you lay on the pedal though. It's a heavy vehicle with a small engine

 

That works great for throttle response with stock engine. Doesn't increase hp/tq or acceleration.
You would still need a supercharger and custom tuning to get any sizable gain in wheel horsepower! All other mods are supporting mods or mods made it increase efficiency (even if it is minimal) it all adds up.

 

This is why I need an SUV with power. I want both power and cargo size to move that cheese dip around. Oh, and I love to offroad!

 

I agree, the truck has descent HP but just lacks in the lower gears. I'm not sure much will help that in an everyday scenario.

Or just save your money for gas and just push down on the accelerator harder. Which does the same thing.

 

Did you look at the Suburban or Tahoe?

The Suburbans and Tahoes are nice, but wouldn't fit down the trails I run. Hell, I rub branches in the 4runner!

I did read the whole post. The OP also sounds like he has some excess income. A suburban will take care of and kill it on the 98% of the time he spends doing everyday personal and business stuff and then turn around and tow an off-road dedicated rig for trail days with ease for the other 2%.

I need to disagree. and have to ask all that say its perceived, or I can press the pedal harder. Have you ever had one on your runner? I went with the booster and it's faster off the line and the 1st time you drive it. You'll wonder why you waited and won't believe the response it has. Bigger tires, SB or CO takes the sluggish feeling and leaves it behind. To me it was one of the best buys for my runner

I wasn't bashing the product. I even recommended it!

Obviously, it's a good product. Everyone who buys one is happy with it. NO-ONE is denying that.

So, if I can admit that it is a good product, can you admit that it DOES NOT make the truck faster?

Remember, SOONER is not FASTER. QUICKER is also not FASTER.

You can't make a vehicle faster without reducing weight, regearing, adding power, etc. The PC and SB don't do any of these things.

 

Have you tried it? I used to plot merging into traffic and hope I didn't get smashed. Now I press the pedal and it gets me in traffic..... Quicker

Why doesn't someone (who has these mods) get one of these & actually find out! You can turn off all the devices & run a 0-60 MPH. Then turn them back on & run the same 0-60 MPH run & see the difference.
This is as scientific as I can think to make it.
No superchargers allowed! We know you get major gains.
They just mount to the windshield & use a 12v plug. They can be used in any vehicle.

 

lol, it cost more than SB or PC. personally I don't need to prove to myself what I know by running one. I've read the reviews, Ive read the manufactures statement saying zero HP gain. Don't take my word for it, go to the other runner forum and read what everyone else says

 

From all of the reviews I've read, the improvement in response from the Pedal Commander and Sprint Booster is well worth the money.

In many cases, people's biggest issue with the acceleration is the delayed response, and the fact that you really need to mash the pedal if you want the truck to move. For these people, the improved response is enough to make them happy.

 

I just would like to see scientific evidence rather than hearsay or personal experience.
This device can be used by many people's vehicles to find what works best for them.
This can work on motorcycles etc.

 

I would definitely like to see some real test results for exhaust and intake modifications. The manufacturers always make claims that they never back up.

Everyone knows what the other devices do.

 

I did GM (1996-2014)...about 50-75K miles and I had issues. I went foreign with Lexus and they last 130K+ with no issues. No excess income yet, that's why MPG are important. It's a V6 that gets under 16MPG street w/ air and cat back exhaust. I can only imagine what a trailer added will do to that MPG.

Who wants to give the gas companies more money unless you invest? Exxon is cheap right now and oil prices are going higher again.

 

The problems comes when you need high RPMs to get the sound you desire. Once you add performance parts you treat it like a BAJA

No Sh*t...I install this stuff myself and so far it's disappointing when you don't see great gains. However, you increase the power where you might need it but don't expect it. I'm headed to Bridgeport OHV Offroad Park and I know my truck will preform well. I'm sure Toyota has done a lot of research on their 4.0L engine

Their response to my question if this works on a 2019 T4R TRD:

Yes, this will work with all 4Runner year / models. The Performance chip is a tuned resistor setup to interact with your specific vehicles IAT Sensor. It connects to the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (or the ECT in older vehicles), we adjust the sensor input to change the value of the signal going to the ECU to make the sensor believe that the incoming air is colder than it actually is. This causes the intake to take in more air which acts like a mini supercharger and the increased air flow allows for more HP and torque. As a reaction to the additional air flow, the fuel mixture is leaned out. So on average you add 20 - 30 HP and save 3-5 MPG. The adjustment to the IAT/ECT does not allow the sensor to exceed the factory specifications so it will not damage the vehicle or sensor.

The chip is also made to be able to be removed and reinstalled easily. Although the changes are minimal, during inspection if they see an aftermarket part they may fail. We suggest that you remove the chip the day before the inspection and then reinstall after you pass. Same thing for taking the vehicle into the manufacturer for repair.

Once purchased and you provide the Year, Make, Model and VIN Number, we provide you the diagram for finding and installing the unit in your specific vehicle. This chip will not disable the speed limitation set by the vehicle's computer.

This could be due to the exhaust and/or intake. I did intake/exhaust on a Scion TC and lost about 5 MPG. I drove it the same. I put the stock intake back on and MPG went back to normal.

 

When I bought it it was at 13.4 so I wiped the memory by pulling the battery. Seems the truck is set at 15.3 street and 18 highway. I will take it on a 300 mile journey Saturday and really test the MPG with all the upgrades.

Is there any easier way to clear the historic MPG on the display?

 

I have wanted one for years. They can even show the beginning of problems if numbers change. It is like having your own track in your vehicle.
I believe we should get a stock T4R & test it.
Add an intake & test it.
Exhaust & test it.
On & on until we find the point of diminishing returns without a supercharger or nitrous.
We would all have to run test with similar tires in the same temperature range.
I would help pay & participate. We have a TRD intake & stock sized Duratracs.
