So the wife surprised me with a new Stihl MS 261cm last month. This is the nicest saw I’ve ever owned! The auto tune carb makes it perfectly tuned at all times and It starts within 2 pulls every time. I took the muffler off the first day snd opened it up and cut some baffles in it. Made it feel like it had 10 extra cc’s! I’m considering deleting the gasket between the case and cylinder lowering the squish and squeezing some extra power out of her. Just not sure if I want to void the warranty on a brand new $700 saw.
I’ve cut a shit load of wood the past few weeks and the stihl has done it all. I picked up a Husqvarna 365 special two weeks ago for $20! I completely rebuilt it and put a new big bore cylinder and piston in it. That was a heck of a deal.
Now it’s killing me to wait for deer season to be over so I can get back in the woods and cut some more wood.

I remember when all of that happened. That’s just insane. Makes me wanna start up a tree service! Lol

why didn’t you just rent a man lift, buy a good saw and cut those suckers from the top down? You woulda probably had a $1000 in it for the saw and the lift, had two down trees and a saw that would have lasted you the rest of your life.

I recently used a 80’ 4x4 boom lift to do two chimneys for one of my customers and it was only $180 a day rental fee.

Well I got a quote to finish. $1800. So the guy said you rope the limbs down, cut it and hook a come-a-long to it and wench it over. And he sad it won’t touch the fence. It’s BIG. Givin my neighbor the wood cause I don’t burn.
My father-in-law gave me a lil American Made Homelite from like the 70’s. It was made by Textron....Very well made.....I hear Huskys are a lil lighter....

You can find them at yard sales and Craigslist. I got the original manual ( that’s how I know Textron Corp made it), case, and a few brand new chains....

Before my father in law passed away in July I cut wood for him just about every winter for the last 9 years. I've got a Jonsered 630 that I usually use. Also have a Stihl ms171 that I keep in my truck during hunting season/winter time. I think last winter I cut about 7 cords of wood all together. This has been the first winter in a long time I haven't been cutting wood.

I love cutting wood and splitting wood but hate stacking wood. That's what kids are for!

If you don’t own a Fiskers x27 splitting AXE, (yes, I said axe) BUY ONE now! Hands down the best splitting tool I’ve ever used. It out splits any maul I’ve ever used.

    I really don’t know right now I guess it’s a ms251, I’ll check that tomorrow
I bought it for deck framing but she performed well on the larger pines around my house so no need to go bigger.
I’m pretty sure that new one is awesome but I guess the ability of repair a stihl quick, easy and cheap is not given on that one

yeah I’m sure it’ll be a complicated SOB no doubt! But stihl repairs are never CHEAP! Lol that’s one of the few things I like about Husqvarna is you can order most parts online.

Sorry, I did not bought anything except from chains I can’t really tell.

The last time I bought spare parts was over in germany and that was so cheap that I order way more then I was original planning to replace

I have a Stihl Farmboss with a 20" bar. This thing is a beast. My Dad also refurbished the wood splitter we used to use when I was a kid in 70's and he gave it to me. Still works great. I love cutting and splitting wood.

Double check it and yes I was right it’s a ms251

I would love to have a old Dolmar but I guess I’m out of luck on that one, Makita bought them 1991 to get into the chainsaw business, so the knowledge and technic is still to find in a Makita but even when I like my Makita tools I’m sure the quality is not competitive to what it was as they where back in the days. I used them a lot and some of them where older then I am, a really made to last product.

Btw: Dolmar was the first one that produce a chainsaw in series (1927)

You can still pick up new Makitas that are just rebranded Dolars. The Makita 5000 for example is a Dolmar 5105 and one hell of a saw. It’s on my list of saws that I’ve got to get soon. There is one for sale close by me on Craiglist in like new cond for $400. If it wasn’t xmas shopping time, I’d own that saw!

Wally, I know of a few guys that are running 20-30 year old Farm bosses. Those things were built well. Now I’d choose an echo any day over the new home owner Stihl line. The Echo cs590 is about the best money spent in that price range. Built like a professional saw unlike the clambshell designs.

I'm still using a 041 Farm Boss that my dad bought used '78. That one has a 20" bar.
My own 441 has a 36" bar and my Wife likes using the little 011 w/14" bar.
