New 4 Gen in Utah

Hey 4Runners, I am psyched to be part of this awesome community. I do have an issue and perhaps you can advise on but first about my purchase. I live in Utah and have been looking for a V8 with low miles. I found a 10 yr old V8 maintained by Toyota of Manhattan with 56k miles on it. Purchased site unseen from a Chrysler dealer who took it in on trade. Being in New York City I bet this car has never seen off road or 4x4 other than an occasional snow storm.

Now the problem. H4 with VSC off works, L4 with VSC off does not work. Lo on dashboard flashes and car beeps. Without taking "The Beast" to the dealer for a costly repair, is there something that I can try or do to fix the problem? Thanks. See you in Moab, look for Utah Plate, "Sno Ski".

 

are you putting the vehicle in neutral before attempting to engage 4lo? do you have the instructions card thats found in the visor for operation of the 4x4?

 

Yes, putting in neutral. I have not seen a card in the visor, not to say it is not there, will look. I do have the manual though.

 

i went off the card in the visor, my 4lo is temperamental, it doesnt always engage first shot

 

Holler once you get that 4WD working, always down for a trip to Moab.

 

Hi Kevin. Nice to meet another Utah 4Runner. I need to do some work to my beast. I need to lift, front bumper and some lights. Is their a shop or person you have worked with that you would recommend. Frankly I am not handy in this department. Thanks pal.

 

If you've got a driveway and some pizza, I've got tools. Bumper and lights are fairly easy, the lift can be easy or hard depending on how much you spend up front. If you really don't want to get your hands dirty, Cruiser Outfitters might be willing to install for you, especially if you decide on an OME lift and an ARB bumper, because that's what Kurt sells . I'm not familiar enough with any other shops to recommend one in particular.

 

Being from NYC it may have never seen an off-road trail but its probably seen its fair share of road salt. Have u crawled underneath to give it an inspection? Also if Kevin is offering u his time and tools, not to mention his knowledge and charming wit, u need to take him up on his offer. Listen and learn what he has to say. If you're serious about this sport, then being able to work on your rig is crucial. Being able to trail fix can save your life!
