Toyota oil filters at Wal-Mart

Toyota filters at Wal-Mart in Millington TN.

 

Nice although I'm not doing my own oil with this one. Some Wally Marts have cabin filters and some do not the one right near me doesn't but I'll have to look again. I think they started with a smaller selection. Their beginning to take notice of Amazon.

Not out here in the West, but the local one does stock Bosch and Mobil 1 filters, which is what I use. Apparently, the dealer does all my oil changes, but only every 10k miles, which is unsettling. I use Mobil 1 and don't go over 7k miles.

BTW, I spent some time in Millington, TN out at NTTC Millington in the 80's. I hear The Anchor is gone...

Thanks for sharing! I see they have the best filter available, the 90915- YZZD3. Fits my '88 4Runner, '05 Tundra 4.7, '03 Tacoma 2.4, and '01 Tacoma 2.7

 

I change my own oil on my 2018 SR5 at 5000 miles, I wouldn't even dare to get close to the 10,000 mile recommendation.
For example, if you had a tub of dish water with the best detergent available and you kept using it over and over again particles of food/foreign matter would eventually build up even if the tub of water/detergent was still cleaning dishes. The same is true with oil in the crankcase except the engine has a filter to remove the big particles. Your engine will undoubtedly begin to burn oil prematurely as it ages due to worn piston rings and cylinders. I would guess around the 150,000-200,000 mile range. I have ran engines to nearly 400,000 miles and they at times need a 1/2 qt of oil added between oil changes.
My credentials you ask? is my personal experience and having been a mechanic all my life (57 years young).

 

I change synthetic oils every 10k, conventional at 5k and my father in law had a Tacoma that he changed oil every 40k with conventional, he sold it at 700k miles and it’s still on the road with never having any engine problems or burning oil.

 

My Tacoma goes 12,500 between synthetic oil changes. Occasionally I get the oil tested by the lab. So far my 4runner is going every 10k between changes. No worries at all with either interval.

In my humble opinion "pretty much", by changing oil at my stated intervals it eliminates any need for oil analysis.
Example #2, Let's say oil analysis starts to show signs of wear, guess what? no matter how minuet, the premature wear I talked about has already started, and then what is the remedy? change oil allot sooner? engine rebuild...?
This may come as a surprise to some people but worn engines don't heal themselves.
I'm just giving people out there something to think about. To embrace it, or discard it, is totally up to the individual. Peace Out

 

Your engine begins to wear the minute you start it, fresh oil or not.

Using your logic on this one, why risk even 5,000 miles. Why not change it every 500 miles?

 

That would be even better! except for the fact you would be spending foolish money and time.

 

That’s how I feel about 5,000 mile oil changes. Especially since Toyota engineers recommend 10,000 mile oil change intervals for normal use of our vehicles.

And Tony, please don’t take offense to what I said. By all means, change your oil at 5,000 miles if it makes you feel better. But Toyota has a long history of reliability and they haven’t achieved that my recommending incorrect oil change intervals.

A guy on the other forum just hit 200,000 miles with his 5th gen doing 10,000 mile oil changes, 75,000 mile diff changes, and a 150,000 mile transmission oil change. He states no problems whatsoever. Not to mention the multitude of other Toyota owners that have well exceeded 200,000 miles doing the recommended maintenance intervals.

But if you drive in extreme conditions, change it at 5,000 miles.

 

Time will tell, everybody out there do what you wanna do, as will I.

 

That's...well...yep you're right. We will, you will. Pretty sure that's how the internet works anyways. A bunch of arguing over points not one has any intention to relent to.

However, I do like science. But I do like preventative maintenance.
