Hello everyone, thinking of trading in my 16 Taco and joining the 4Runner family. I love my wife's 2017 4Runner, she has the TRD ORP with KDSS. I like the way the Venture addition is equipped sort of in between the ORP and the Pro. I go to Toyota's website to build one and on one spot you can add KDSS to the vehicle, but when comparing models it shows that it is unavailable on the Venture. Anyone know if KDSS is available on it? My dealer is clueless and didn't even know about the Venture addition until I told them even though they have two coming in next week.

This is the first time I've heard of this options package. So you get gray pro wheels, rubber mats, and a roof rack... for the same price as a Pro?

    Wat?

The Venture edition is based on the ORPremium which starts at $42,470. So the difference in price is slightly over $1800. For that you get the wheels, rack, blacked out valances, door handle and rear deflector. So really not a bad deal if you like the TRD Pro wheels.

The “build your own” on Toyota’s website is really an “available inventory” tool. My understanding is that KDSS will be available as an option on the venture. You just need to find a dealer who will order you one

So update in case anyone cares. Asked the dealer and he said SET are not equipping any Venture models with KDSS. He offered to special order me one at MSRP. Told him I'd rather take a road trip, thanks but no thanks. If I wanted to pay MSRP I would buy a Pro.

It seems counterintuitive to me that they would expect MSRP for a car they have a known buyer for, that will spend zero days on their lot. Its easy money for them!

Especially considering I have bought three vehicles from them in 4 years... Oh well there are a ton of Toyota dealers and one of them will want to make a sale. I am guessing that come the end of the year I will get a phone call when they are worried about making bank.

Not sure cool dealerships exist anymore. My toyota guy I've known 20 years, bought half a dozen vehicles from....lied to me about no orders on a 20 back in May 2019. Said he couldn't drop a penny under where he was at in price.
I drove 20 miles north and saved 3k.
Told him about it and he called me a liar, said no one could have sold it for the price I got. I texted him a copy the sale said I'll never buy again from him

Yeah the salesman I used for my previous transactions is no longer there. His wife is Navy and I guess she got reassigned. He was great to deal with. The guy I am dealing with now always asks the GM to come over, probably cause I know more about the vehicle then they do. I had to explain KDSS to them

It sounds like these dealerships are trying to take advantage of return customers. I had a similar experience with the dealership that sold me my '15 Tacoma. I ended up buying my 4runner elsewhere.

I guess you just have to shop around.

@JimmyAGR I hope you find a deal on the truck you want. Keep us posted.

I have a premium without a moon roof. I actually like them, but I took what was available. I don't mind the extra head room. It keeps my fishing rods out of my hair.:D

I have been watching all the 2020 4runners coming into my area and most have the sunroof. My dealer thinks I was crazy to order one without.

    That's funny.

Sometimes I wish I had it, but I almost never open the one in my TC. Also, my last 4runner had one and I probably opened it twice a year.

Aside from the fact that they take a little bit of headroom away, there's probably a number of people who are concerned about the possibility of leakage. I haven't had an issue with this, but it could happen.

Okay so update, made a deal tonight on an MGM ORP with MSRP of $45,905 for $43,299. It has the KDSS, moon roof and sliding deck. Plus I will get an additional $500 military discount for financing through SET. Only thing is they don't have one LOL. He said it could be 5-7 days if the can locate one in the area or 8-12 weeks if they have to order one. I am fine with waiting. Funny thing is that when we bought my wife's 2017 I insisted on white and they couldn't find one the way I wanted. They eventually found one with KDSS which at the time I didn't know anything about, so we got that for free. Very excites, going to be putting on some bronze SCS wheels and still figuring out which lift to go with. Not going to be a rock crawler, just fire roads, gun range ruts and mud and some camping. Not a lot of rock crawling in Fl.

Check out @HeadStrong Off-Road for lift options. They seem to have a great selection of lift options for our trucks. I'm really torn myself, and I've heard that their staff is very helpful.

    Also, congratulations!

Don't forget to replace the stock tires while you're getting the wheels.

Yeah will definitely be doing tires. Have Nittos on my Taco and have been happy with them. I am sure there are a thousand threads on this but can you go up 1 size tire before lift and not be rubbing? Deciding on which to do first, wheels or lift.

I think you can do 275's without rubbing, but it will depend on offset.

I'm running stock size KO2's and -6 offset, and I rub if I turn tight while braking. I can easily fix it with a heat gun. I just need to get off my ass and do it.

There is a thread somewhere that is basically the bible of offsets, tire size VS rubbing, etc.

Yeah looking at the Rays SCS 10 in bronze which I think have a 4.5 offset. Would like to take the ORP wheels off ASAP to sell them to help offset the cost and would like to only buy tires once instead of having to replace them again after the lift. My wife wants my TRD 4Runner Pro wheels off the Taco, wonder if they will realize when I trade it in...

Do it! They're not going to give you any more or less based on wheels. Unless you put steelies on it!:D

I'm looking for a 2020 Venture Edition in Midnight Blue. I also had to explain to my local dealer what this version was and how it compared to the TRD Pro/Premium.. They were totally clueless which is ridiculous. They didn't have any in stock yet.. not until early January and were quoting me $1,000 over MSRP from Toyota website. He said they are all being made with KDSS,which is an extra $1800 and don't think I really need. Needless to say I need to shop around. Was also considering going with a TRD Premium and adding the Grey TRD wheels, but then you lose the black grill and accents which I think looks much better. Also don't really care for the YAKIMA rack and would prob just sell it. Also was considering just buying stock wheels an putting a pair of FUEL aftermarket wheels on, but wasn't sure if that would require getting new tires or lift/leveling as I've not familiar w/that process.. If anybody has any idea pls let me know. Thanks all. This forum is super helpful!

    I wouldn’t spend the extra 1800$

It would make sense for someone that really want that rack and the rims.

KDSS is not standard, it is an option and a hard to find one on the Venture model. After originally looking at the Venture I went with the ORP with KDSS, moonroof, and sliding rear deck. I plan on getting Rays SCS 10s on it when they come in. I blacked out all of the emblems for about $100. I got over $3.5K off MSRP. My dealer didn't know what the Venture was until I told him, then said MSRP. Told him to kiss it.

Thanks Jimmy.. Great idea. I think I'm leaning towards doing the exact same thing you just did as it's much easier to find a ORP and then I can pick my own wheels. I also want to black out the front fascia on the grill which is silver on the ORP and was black on the Venture. I think I saw a guy on the Forums that did it w/Vynl and it looked good. Just checked out those wheels and they look sweet. I'm cuurious what you think it will cost, all in for the wheels and if you think they would look OK w/stock tires that come w/the ORP. Much appreciate the advice guys! Would love to see pics once you get your wheels on.

4 SCS wheels are about $900 plus I think about $40 for new lug nuts as they need to be longer. As far stock tires go that would be a personal choice. I will be going with a all-terrain.

Cost difference ends up being much larger because you can get a much better discount on Off Road vs Venture...when I was shopping recently, cost difference came out to be about $5000 out the door between ORP vs Venture

What tires you think will look good w/those rims? Also, did you find out if you'll need to do a leveling or a lift? Curious which if any as I'm considering that as well. Thanks!

I am looking at Nitto ridge grapplers that I had on my Taco, but also Falken Wildpeak and Kumho road venture. I am looking to go up one size to 275-70-17. I plan on a lift but not right away and probably only a 1.5 to 2". More camping, beach, gun range then heavy off road.

I had Kumho at51's on my Tacoma. I put probably 40K miles on them and had a lot of tread left. They were surprisingly good in some off road situations, with the exception being mud. They were also great in snow. They had a bit of a high pitched road noise, but it was tolerable. It might not be bad at all in a 4runner, as they seem to be more soundproof than a Tacoma.

A lot of people are liking the Wildpeaks right now. Those are definitely a good option.

Post pictures once you get them!
