My experience with spacers

    So, a while back I did a Fox 2.0 upgrade on my rig and had put 1.5" spacers to squeeze some 285's on... Well, I went back to 265's and when the shop removed the spacers, the lug nuts were stripped almost clean with barely any bite on them. The spacers were on for almost a month and under 3.5k miles. I will certainly not use them on any future upgrades and opt for wheels/tires. This was an expensive error on my part and lesson learned.

    I feel like more info is necessary.

    Why were the lugs stripped? Was something not properly torqued? Were these a Wish.com purchase?
    There has to be more than just that you installed them, they fell apart, you took em off and recommend not using wheel spacers.

    This would only be the case if they were cheap spacers with inadequate hardware; or if they were over torqued/installed with an impact.

    Unsure as to why they stripped so easily. The shop installed, rechecked one week later and everything checked out. Last week I went for a front end alignment as the steering wheel wobbled between 50-60 and 70-75. After, it drove smoothly with minimal wobble when I drove to work and the next morning it was back to wobbling.

    the shop that installed them said they torqued everything correctly when I had it installed and after when they checked. My guess is one of two things as was mentioned earlier... cheap product or over torqued when installed.

    A lot of shops say torqued properly. But they put the lug nut on with a impact then use a tq wrench.

    Its already over tightened tq wrench is doing nothing.

    Can only take their word but even a well made spacer will bite the dust at the hands of lazy people.

    Either way, definitely sucks that it happened; but at least it was caught early. The outcome could have been way worse.

    Spacers/adapters are perfectly fine when it’s a quality part that’s been properly installed. But take one of those out of the equation, and bad stuff can happen.
