Hi everyone, I’m still new here, and I know that this topic has been already discussed thousands of times. But I still want to get some fresh news about you professional guys.

I have 2019 4R TRD Pro, For the front recovery point, many people say that two points are for shipping purposes and couldn’t be used as rated recovery point. Does it mean we can not attach there if we need to be towed by other cars.

And I found Treaty Oak sell two brackets recovery point mount bolts on, is that useful or anyone has any reviews on it? Here is the link
    https://www.treatyoakoffroad.com/pr...ery-point?from=singlemessage&isappinstalled=0

Could you guys make me more clearly which could be used and which shouldn’t be done at this point?

    Thanks a lot!!!

People like to tell you they’re not recovery points. People also can’t reference a single documented failure of them being used as recovery points.

Maybe if you plan on becoming a serous off-roader upgraded, otherwise I wouldn’t worry about it.

Just use the factory tie down loops. They are plenty stout.

Most people that say they aren't useable haven't ever actually used them. I use them for winching (with a snatch block and in-bumper winch) and they are fine.

If you want to bolt bling on to your truck you don't need an excuse to do it.

Not at all. Nothing more than a few bolts and about half an hour. Super straight forward

"Bling" or not, (however they do look badass) the Apex Overland brackets are way stronger than the factory points and worth the money IMO. They also are lower by a little bit and will cause less damage if the line happens to run into the bumper for us that dont have an aftermarket bumper yet. On top of that they are only $144.

Interestingly, I don't think those will work with a winch since a hidden winch mounts to the same location as those appear to.

And I wonder which kind of damage could be done to the factory eyelets ? Or damage for the chassis if we over use these two points?
Always hear not to use them, but never know which kind of damage could happen~

    Thank you’

I saw an episode of Mythbusters where they suspended a 70s era station wagon using Super Glue. I would think that the factory anchors would at least be as strong as Super Glue.

if you have a unibody vehicle with a factory anchor point attached to body thickness metal, it stands to reason that an aftermarket anchor would be stronger because, most likely, it spreads the force over a larger area because it’s probably attached to the body by multiple points.

One of the big marketing points for the T4R, and a big reason why we bought them, is because they are one of the few vehicles that are still body on frame construction. With that in mind, if the anchors are attached to the frame, that’s the strongest point that any anchor can be attached to. If you’re in a situation where your recovery gear is damaging the frame, you’ve probably got bigger problems to worry about. I’m no metallurgist, but looking at the thickness of the metal that the factory anchors are made of and comparing with similar size recovery gear components, my guess is that they’re pretty strong. Geometry of aftermarket anchors so that attached cables are better positioned, kudos to them, maybe I’ll buy some.

Along the like of my thinking. If Toyota says they are "recovery points" they open themselves to liabilities. If you get stuck or don't know how to use recovery gear, you can put a lot of stress & pressure on that weld (much more than rocking on a ship). If for any reason those welds fail there is now a metal projectile & they can get away from it by saying (not recovery points).
Could you use for recovery. I bet.
Would I trust it if I buried the axels or one wheel fell into a hole. Nope, too much force.
As a business owner I see liabilities.

That sounds like the thing I had to sign when I bought my T4R that said I couldn’t run chains in the snow.

I asked my Toyota dealer the same question. They said they are tie downs BUT...if you are stuck and are self winching out forward with a snatch you probably aren't pulling their capacity. But as other say, liability. Hopefully you aren't continually winching forward with a snatch block on your new 2019 TRD. Send your buddy to lead and winch off him.

Always carry/use a recovery strap that takes the shock of getting pulled out.. I CANNOT STAND WATCHING dumazzess use chains. CHAINS CREATE SHOCK AND definetely will and can break stuff if yanked hard with speeD >>>> CLAK hitch moved a little or weldz somewhere can crack or dangerous situation.

My pet peeves >>> vertical videos, chains for recovery, pop it in drive with reverse momentum, not using p brake, holding steering wheel when steering pump cries and trying to steer more, list too long...

But there is something to be said with the entertainment value of watching and placing bets of how it will turn out. Broken rear window of tow vehicle for the shock of a broken chain or attachment point.

This doesn't help if you're high centered on a flat rock between two trees. Ask me how I know
