My 4Runner has about 4500 miles on it.

Went out yesterday to start it and the CEL and TRAC OFF light were on. Quick Google search said gas cap. So I check it, and in the course of the day, filled up, made multiple stops (Autozone being one) and the lights are still on as of this morning. It's of course running fine.

Autozone did confirm Gas Cap as the code. I have a service appt Saturday, but was just curious if this is a common issue on this truck?

    Thanks.

It doesn't clear instantly. Autozone should of cleared the code while they were at it.

Did you top up the fuel excessively?

No. Parked it Friday night after work. It sat Saturday. Got in Sunday morning to go out and lights were on. Had 1/4 tank when I parked it.

Sounds like the issue I had on my 09 Tc. No matter how long I let it be or cleared the code, the light would return. The gas cap was not sealing properly. Ended up getting a new gas cap. No issues since.

Well the lights went off this morning. Guess it found out I have a service appt. We'll see what they say. I'm sure with no lights on they wont do anything about it.

Went to the dealer today. Service guy pulled the code and said basically is was a large leak code for the gas cap. Like the gas cap was off when the engine was started. I told him it definitely was not off when I started it.

So he cleared the code out and told me if it happens again, they’ll look deeper into it. I’m ok with that. Hopefully it was just a one time thing.

Anyway. Got my Carista adapter today and got to turn that stupid ECO meter off. So that was cool.
