Well my oldest daughter just bought a 2008 Jeep Rubicon. We love our new 4runner so it will be interesting to see how the Jeep stacks up. I guess I will have to join a Jeep forum now.

I had 2008 Rubicon and here are some things you are going to notice. The ride and handling are remarkably better in the 4 Runner. Gas mileage is better. It is quieter. The insulation is better. Well actually insulation is non existent in the Rubicon. The 4 Runner is going to have more power than the Rubicon. If you go on a dirt road, the Rubicon will be full of dust in the back from the seals leaking.

Off road, if you have the Pro or Off Road with crawl, terrain select, rear lockers, etc., you will find that the Rubicon will not do anything better than the 4 Runner except maybe hardcore rock crawling.

Before people jump in and start disclaimers, keep in mind that I am addressing the 2008 Rubicon here, not newer and possibly better models.

That's a nice TJ. I've got an '03 TJ but, it's not as nice since mine has a lot of body character and the stories that come with it.
I belong to the WranglerTJ.com forum.
    Same screen name.

Just be very careful what Jeep forums you join and don't upset the cult-like following they have.

I had a Jeep a couple of years ago. My dad has a newer Jeep, my brother has an old Jeep. We love/hate Jeeps.

The difference is that we are not deluded into thinking that they are anything other than a capable off-roader simply because they are shorter, narrower, and have solid axles and low gearing. There is nothing magical about a Jeep. And there are plenty of things very, very wrong with them.

But the amount of Kool-aid drinking required on most Jeep forums and by most owners is just too much for someone who appreciates facts and data and truth.

Heck, I'm on a firearms forum and a guy just attacked my 4Runner this morning, claiming it won't last 15 years due to frame rust and won't go hardly anywhere off-road. Such is the level of delusion by Jeep fanatics.

I've owned 8 Jeeps and currently only have 1 (2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door). I actually traded my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door hard top for my 2019 4Runner.

Problem I have with the newer Wranglers is, they have tried to make it into a somewhat "luxury" plush interior but they leak and I really am conflicted on ever buying another one for that reason. I used to drink the Jeep koolaid but after getting the 4Runner and the enhanced comfort, ride quality, noise level reduction, etc I think I am done with newer Jeeps.

I may consider an older one that I could just leave top off and care less if it got wet.

^this. Love older jeeps but Fiat is ruining the Jeep name with quality control. I'll never buy another Fiat made Jeep. Hopefully someone buys them and makes them whole again

I just traded my 2012 wrangler sahara for a 19 TRD off road 4 runner. Never going back to a Jeep, for all of the previously stated reasons.
