Just bought a ‘97 Limited with e-locker, lots of deferred maintenance and some issues. Today put new bushings in the auto shifter cuz it was all I could do go from Park to Drive. After getting ready to pull the shifter I crawl underneath to separate the linkage...and found the nut was loose! Damn, oh well, swapped in the 4 new plastic bushings even though the old ones looked fine. Shifts great now.

And the passenger front door did not open from the outside, so I pulled the panel and a zip tie around the broken plastic acutuator rod piece fixed that issue.

Tomorrow will be transfer case and differential fluids, my timing belt kit with water pump, seals etc should be here Monday. I have tranny fluid and a cooler ready to install. The list goes on. Like the cigarette lighter has no power even though the fuses and relay are ok. Seats. Power antenna. Tires. Check ball joints and tie rod ends.

My friend sunk his boat yesterday. In case you are out in rapids, don’t put the anchor at the back or you will be swimming hanging onto a gas tank.:)

    Alright y'all....

Operation: Freddie 4runner Lives is in full swing.

After sitting under a tree for almost a year, through a harsh winter here in Indiana, I have resurrected Freddie from the dead.

First order of business was to get it at least running again.

    -New battery
    -New alternator
-Timing belt and water pump service
    -New accessories belt

Once I got this done, some other little demons reared their ugly heads. Aside from my OCD ticking like a time bomb about the current state of the paint and interior cleanliness, I need new tires, suspension, headlight, tail light, front passenger side turn signal issue and exhaust and brakes.

Once I got it up and running, I pulled it into the garage and started a painstakingly slow process of cleaning it up. Hit the windows with some glass cleaner and let it sit. Warm bucket of soap water to clean all the door jams and nooks and crannies to get the tree smutz off. Then I took it to a DIY car wash and pressure washed it and scrubbed it with a brush. (Typical, I know.) This didnt get it completely clean on the outside. The roof was still covered is dirt and debris.

I removed the roof rack and cleaned the bars and checked the rubber on the bottom side to make sure it was still in good condition. While I had the roof clear, I took it to a local Blue Beacon Truck Wash and had it cleaned using high pressure and good chemicals. this also strips the paint of all waxes. NOW IT IS CLEAN! Reinstalled the roof rack when I got home. Will remove the support bars (3) to polish and wax later.

I am happy to report the exhaust has been repaired utilizing a OEM style muffler (this thing was crazy loud...like, white trash loud) and the turn signal issue in the front passenger side was remedied. I also changed the brakes on the front to Powerstop slotted and drilled rotors and sport pads. Stops much better now. Like, completely different vehicle. The brake pedal is firm throughout the entire braking process.

New tires went on this week as well. Cooper S/T Maxx in stock size, 265/70 R16.

I have a new headlight sitting on the work bench at home. I think I will simply swap the glass lens from the new headlight to the factory housing. (I'd like to do a retrofit, but that is not in the budget right now.

I also ordered some of these:

and a new license plate for the front:

This is how Freddie sits now!

Had to leave work to run home, the 98 had a flat tire. Just bought new tires a couple months ago and the driver's side rear has a 3/8" lag bolt in it! So frustrating last summer I had 20 some nails pulled out of a brand new set of 37s on my Ford. I have the worst luck with tires!

    Today

    -Flushed the transmission
    -Installed an aux trans cooler
    -Installed a magnefine filter
    -Changed the fuel filter
    -Fixed the rear brakes

Oh yeah, she's shifting like butter now. So happy and I got a good deal on the labor.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to swap the spark plugs and wires and then next weekend I'm changing the upper ball joints.

Replacing the front sway bar end links. Snapped one off. Makes quite a gnarly noise every now and then.

Any suggestions? I saw the Energy Suspension brand is in stock at my local Advanced Auto....Thinking about those.

I would consider no sway bar, however I'm on stock suspension right now.

If I replaced the suspension it would be with the OME option that provides the lowest lift...so softest springs.

    Would that be ok?

On my 01 Tacoma, I had the Ultimate Lift Kit from Bilstein/Eibach and the springs were 700lb springs (I think) and it was a 4cyl. I removed the sway bar because the suspension was so firm I didnt even need it.

Would that be the case with the 4runner?

Got the boat rigged up and I’m heading to the river for “before the forth fireworks” and catfish. Hope these GT Radials hold up I don’t have the right size spare.

I really like this hull design. It’s got “Carolina Flare” and plenty of chimes to get you right up on plane. I’ve never “nosed” a wave...High tide is at 5:30 but there’s gonna be a storm rollin through...

Changed front/rear diff, transfer case oil. Took 10 minutes. But ran into a problem with the front drain bolt. Stripped it so had to suction the oil out. It all still looked pretty good but now I know I’m good for another 100,000 miles! New crush washers worked well too....9245FDAC-5F61-4512-8751-C84529DD909E.jpgB29FF7C1-C1D1-42D6-AC5D-0D29F34E3242.jpg35A483D4-762A-485F-8E7F-D3DE54047BC3.jpg
