Ok I went into this with eyes open hoping to learn a few techniques. I mean who does not want to learn the art of negotiation and win while doing it? Well I am always interested in learning new techniques that can only benefit. I was intrigued and a bit overwhelmed when I first starting reading this book. It gives an almost an insurmountable level of information while breaking it down in bits of information so as not overwhelm the reader. I appreciated the author and commend him for doing this. I am a very fast reader and I tend to go back if I get to a point in a book where I have mistakenly overlooked information. I did that with this book only to come away feeling more secure with the notion that I can and have become a better negotiator and have tested some of the options of this out on other people in casual conversations. Has it worked? Mainly yes. Sometimes I get ahead of myself and it is at that point that I realize that the reasoning it did not work in those situations was because I became a bit over zealous. It is in my nature to want things immediately, being who I am this book offers EXTENSIVE yet at the same time POINTED information that can and should be used if you find yourself in a situation that you feel you can gain or want more from any scenario. On the flip side there was a point where I see these techniques being used by people in power and taking it to another level. You see it every day everywhere. It is to your advantage to be aware of how you use this information and I STRONGLY recommend not using it for manipulation in any form. Have I become a master negotiator? Probably not. Did I learn anything from this book? Yes. This book is well written and offers the reader insight into negotiations and how to succeed in navigating the art of negotiation. As in any book it is up to the reader to take away what they will. This author defines and procures resources so that the reader is and has the ability to learn and navigate any issue.

I wanted to read this simply because negotiating seems like a beneficial skill to have; however, I am happy to report that it was not only a useful book, but it was entertaining and a joy to read as well. I learned a lot and have already put this knowledge to use in my daily life. This book should be required reading in schools across the country, and it's going straight to my "read again soon" shelf.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I found “Ma$ter the Negotiation” by Vaughn Wolf to be very informative on how to negotiate better, be it with your boss or your spouse. He lays out all the tools you need and gives many insightful examples.

Entering a negotiation, one must know who holds the power, is time essential and what information is key to a deal. One must also be aware of cultural differences that might influence a deal.

I liked that the author provided a negotiation checklist to prepare. Many times the best prepared negotiator wins. I liked the straight forward approach Mr. Wolf uses even admitting that sometimes there is no solution.

If you want to be a better negotiator, read this book.
